Any thoughts on this name? I've always loved it but wondered whether people thought it seemed very plain. I'm also aware it was popular when I was young so might seem a bit old hat.

Love it

LBear04 · 17/01/2022 19:59

Lovely name, if you worried about it being a bit plain you could modify it to Sara? Xx

Icenii · 17/01/2022 19:59

I'm liking Sarah, Louise, Claire, Emma, Nicola etc.

Bilbohobbit · 17/01/2022 20:02

I love Sarah. Serene and graceful. I have a Sarah and she's very happy with her name ( young adult - we don't know any other Sarahs her age.

There's also Sarah-Jane, Sarah-Lou and so on.

All the women I know with those names are fab.

TheGratefulBread · 17/01/2022 20:09

I'm Sarah. Late 30's. I've always loved it. Was never bothered by its popularity.

It's definitely timeless. Yes with almost any timeless name, there will be periods when it's more popular, but at the same time when you hear the name (or any timeless name) you can't be certain how old that Sarah, Edward, Elizabeth, John etc etc is. Sarah could easily be 8 months, 18, or 80. I think that's one of the reasons I love having the name.

Classica · 17/01/2022 20:16

It's okay. Definitely boring though.

I know so many of them of all ages. One of those safe names that just hangs around.

tapdancingmum · 17/01/2022 20:18

I have a Sarah who is nearly 21 and I love the name. There was only her at primary school with her name and two at secondary. I've been hearing it a lot more recently but not too much.

SquigglePigs · 17/01/2022 20:20

I like it. I think it's simple and unfussy rather than plain. I'd have used it but I have a few friends called Sarah so couldn't really.

The list of other names you wouldn't hear made me smile - we have a baby Rachel with one of our friends. I think it's sweet.

Crowdfundingforcake · 17/01/2022 21:26

Lovely name - no issues with pronunciation or spelling, not related to any particular time (oh that name's so millennial/1950's). Elegant, not over used.

3peassuit · 17/01/2022 21:27

Timeless and classic.

blyn · 17/01/2022 21:28

I love the name but I do like traditional names. There were loads of Sarahs around when my son was at school.

BliainNua · 17/01/2022 21:28

Love it ❤

Crowdfundingforcake · 17/01/2022 21:28

Plus, Fleetwood Mac!

RedCandyApple · 17/01/2022 21:29

Boring

littlepetit · 17/01/2022 21:31

I quite like 80s/90s names on babies at the moment, a friends baby is called Jennifer which I think is very sweet and refreshing, also love all the other names mentioned.

MintyGreenDream · 17/01/2022 21:31

It's my name and I'm very meh about it

hivemindneeded · 17/01/2022 21:33

@sadpapercourtesan

I find it very 80s, along with Claire, Emma, Rachel, Louise etc. I wouldn't use it, but I wouldn't raise an eyebrow if someone else did either - it's fine, just a bit meh.
I love all those Eighties names.

I think Sarah is beautiful.

Kokeshi123 · 18/01/2022 00:42

Pretty name but oh my goodness, "done to death" does not even do justice to the hordes of Sarahs in the 70s and 80s. It was so generic, you may as well have called your daughter "Girl" or "Daughter." It's certainly not that common now and I want to like it, but... Still, if you like it, go ahead--there's nothing objectively wrong with it.

LoveTuesday · 18/01/2022 07:14

My Sarah was one of 2 in a school of 300 in the 90s. There are 3 in my current work place of approx 100 and their ages range from 25 to 60.
I don't think it's over used my any means.

Ceramide · 18/01/2022 08:15

It's a lovely name, classic and with a nice meaning

Edenember · 18/01/2022 10:00

I inexplicably love it, my taste otherwise is generally a lot more unusual / clunky. I can understand why some would find it dated given it’s 80s popularity, but I think the biblical origin grounds it in provenance, and I’d find it refreshing used today.

LaChanticleer · 18/01/2022 12:01

I find it very 80s

Hilarious! Hmm you know it's a very old Jewish name? You'll find it in the Old Testament

Classica · 18/01/2022 12:28

Shocker, even biblical name aren't immune from sounding dated. Deborah, Ruth, Simon, Mark, nothing wrong with them but lots of people would associate them with the 1970s/80s.

Nosetickle · 18/01/2022 16:46

I seriously just looked at this name for the first time, really properly looked at it, and thought how beautiful it is. It took me a few seconds to click that it’s actually my name 😆 it really is such a pretty name and I never meet any little people with the name. It’s due a revival for sure.
