Any thoughts on this name? I've always loved it but wondered whether people thought it seemed very plain. I'm also aware it was popular when I was young so might seem a bit old hat.

I love it. There were lots of Sarah's when I was at school but now it's very unusual to hear of a child called Sarah. It has a lovely, gentle sound. Pretty but not flouncy. Very refreshing amongst all the Avas, Mias, Islas etc.

needasleep · 17/01/2022 15:57

I love it but I am biased my 18 year old is Sarah and she loves her name. She was the only Sarah in her class/year group.

Huntswomanonthemove · 17/01/2022 15:59

Love it.

stupendousfragmentariness · 17/01/2022 16:00

Beautiful name. Thousands of years old. Means "princess." What's not to love?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 17/01/2022 16:03

It’s a biblical name so hardly a 1980’s name. Although there were a few more Sarah’s then.

I love it. I was thinking recently it was due a revival along with Emma, Jane, Laura. All beautiful classic names.

Snowiscold · 17/01/2022 16:08

It’s very nice. There were lots when I was at school - born 1960s.

AliceMcK · 17/01/2022 16:33

It’s a lovely name, I think it’s always been in the background, when I was young lots of Sarah’s, I know a few 90s Sarah’s and two 00s ones.

It’s definitely a refreshing change to Evie, Ava, Sophie, Sophia, Emily, Olivia, Mai etc….

LavenderRosemary · 17/01/2022 17:04

I like it. Lovely name.

ZenNudist · 17/01/2022 17:05

It's a very lovely classic name.

MrsMoastyToasty · 17/01/2022 17:09

I like it. I know about 10 but they are all 40 plus.
I also know a few Zahra's and Sahra's (I work with a lot of women from Africa ).

toastofthetown · 17/01/2022 17:39

Sarah was in the top hundred in England and Wales from 1904-2016 so has always been around, even if it did hit its popularity peak in the 70s and 80s.

AmberLynn1536 · 17/01/2022 17:48

It would be so refreshing for a baby to be called Sarah, it would really hold its own now as you don’t hear it on little ones, it’s a classic, love it that Phil Lynott wrote this for his daughter Sarah

wingsofabird · 17/01/2022 17:54

Love it. Really love it

PattyPan · 17/01/2022 17:59

It’s a bit boring imo

resm · 17/01/2022 18:49

I really, really love it and would use it now if my teenage niece wasn’t a Sarah. I think it would really suit a baby/child and is really refreshing nowadays.

stupendousfragmentariness · 17/01/2022 18:55

I LOVE that Thin Lizzy song, @AmberLynn1536.

There's also very different songs by Charles Aznavour and J. J. Goldman which pay tribute to very different Sarahs.

I wouldn't personally. There are so many Sarah's aged 30 to 50, it is crazily popular for my age group (mid thirties). This means your daughter will have a 'mum' name, the same name as lots of her friends mums and very few peers. On seeing her name written down people will naturally assume she is 30 years older than she is. I say this as someone who has a 70s name when I was born in the 80s. I'd rather be ahead of a trend than behind it and it won't be due a full revival for a long time yet.

tearinghairout · 17/01/2022 19:29

It has a lovely sound. Strong and classic.

Imissmoominmama · 17/01/2022 19:29

I’m from the Sarah era (it’s not my name). I think it’s one of the names which hasn’t dated. There were Helens, Tinas, Amandas, Angelas Sharons etc, which have, a little, but I don’t see Sarah in the same way.

elvis4nuts · 17/01/2022 19:30

Very dull name

GrandPrismatic · 17/01/2022 19:37

There were 4 in my class at school (80s) and now I’m thinking about it, I only have one Sarah in my current group of friends and regular acquaintances im not sure where they have all gone! Do it…I like it’s simplicity. And everyone can say it.

Comedycook · 17/01/2022 19:39

Nice enough but yes, it's plain imo.

stupendousfragmentariness · 17/01/2022 19:43

I know Sarahs who are 5, 9, 12, 18 and 32. It won't seem weird or dated at all. It never fell from use.

Geamhradh · 17/01/2022 19:54

It's lovely.
Timeless, classy and elegant.

Mrstwiddle · 17/01/2022 19:57

I think it’s a pleasant (if a little dull) name, but I agree with PP that there’s just too many Sarahs in the 30-50 age group atm
