Confession time: i really like name Lisa. I mostly like sound of it, and also love Louise and Lucia.
Is it usable or too dated?

Lovely name. Easy to say and spell
Likely to be super popular in the next 10 years or so as 70s names revive so you'll be ahead of the curve.

My thoughts word for word!

Teana89 · 10/01/2022 06:47

Im a Lisa. It's boring and there's a lot of us, especially in our 40s. It's not vintage enough to use yet.

Marimaur · 10/01/2022 22:57

Lucia is a beautiful name

Thoosa · 10/01/2022 23:00

Any name you like is “usable” unless it’s something like Arse or Butthead - in which case the registrar might well intervene anyway - and maybe names such a Adolf, Jezebel & Myra.

Lisa is lovely and babies grow into their names anyway.

Jabbawasarollingstone · 10/01/2022 23:01

What about Alyssa? Alicia?

ConstanceL · 10/01/2022 23:08

Lisa is, to me at least, just a really boring and nondescript kind of name, completely inoffensive though. Lucia is lovely, and Louise is ok, prefer Louisa.

Bouncer500 · 10/01/2022 23:14

I love Lisa. It is fresh and pretty.

irishfarmer · 11/01/2022 12:32

@eggandonion

Laoise, pronounced Lee Sha is an Irish name, but you wont be allowed to use it because people will tell you nobody can spell it!
@eggandonion I know there is an e but I would just think of the county! I don't know anyone called that. Even though the name does have a cool meaning. Strangely one of my top names is Clara, maybe I could call her Clara Laoise!! Grin

I like Lisa, I like Louise as well.

LovelyLi · 26/10/2022 02:22

My name is Lisa. Was born 1977. I love my name a few in school had the same name as was popular at the time. I wish I was given a middle name though! Lisa Louise? Lisa Marie? I especially like it when the there’s a ring to the name, first and second name starts with same initials. I hope this will have a come back . Like Laura , Emma , Sarah etc most people call me Leigh. Would I change it No. my Dad give me this name on 3rd August 1977. He was my Hero. Elvis passed away on the 16th . Wish I’d been given the second name of his daughter Marie . Would have prefer Lisa Louise though. I love Lily Louise too 😘

Go for it!

I mean, you could just choose one of the standard issue names from now, but how dull.

If/when it comes back in 20 years’
time, your DD would be an adult, and her name will feel so much fresher than the ubiquitous Avas, Evas, Ellies, Milas, Maddies and Sophias.

I speak from experience - I was given an old lady name in the 70s when no-one else was touching it with a barge-poll. Fast forward 25 years, and the name and its variations went on to dominate the top ten girls’ name list for over a decade.

I really like not being yet another Karen / Nicola / Joanne / Jennifer / Angela (no offence to those names, but they were everywhere when I was growing up).

im sure 9 months on the OP has already named her child.

@LovelyLi why on Earth revive a baby name thread 11 months old? There are plenty of other baby name threads to tell everyone how much you love your name

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 26/10/2022 02:39

I think it's timeless.

My sister's name; it doesn't seem anachronistic on her.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 26/10/2022 02:42

TheSpiral · 09/01/2022 17:54

I think Lisa is nicer than Louise although may be biased by it being my middle name and the middle name of half my contempories, and also because it was so bloody hard to learn how to spell with those three vowels in a row. Much of my early work is signed Firstname Lousie Surname.

Anyway that's a bit of a tangent as OP didn't mention Louise - yes OP I think Lisa is fine and lovely, and will be relatively unusual for this generation as well.

I think Louisa is old-biddy relative to Lisa.

Think Grace Kelly as Lisa in "Rear Window"

Itisbetter · 26/10/2022 02:43

I think it’s lovely. To be fair I do know a Lisa and that always effects how you feel about it.

FergusSingsTheBIues · 26/10/2022 02:55

There was a Lisa on my class and she was an absolute bastard - I think even the teachers were scared of her

Notarealmum · 26/10/2022 02:57

SnowyPetals · 09/01/2022 16:58

I think it's dated but not old enough to make a comeback yet. How about Annalisa with Lisa as nickname? That way your child could also choose Anna as a short form later.

Yes! Lovely name!

LovelyLi · 26/10/2022 03:11

Because someone might come across this thread and just thought it might be Of interest to them . Like I came across it.Not promoting how much I love my name. I also love Laura , Liza and a lot of others. 🙄

EstellaRijnveld · 26/10/2022 03:12

I prefer Lucia and then Louisa because Lisa and Louise sound dated.

Nanalisa60 · 26/10/2022 03:28

I have always liked my name, I was born in 1961 and have never meet anyone older then me with my name , but in the 1970,s it was very popular. I read last year that hardly any girls were registered Lisa , it is one of the dying names. So your daughter will probably be the one only Lisa in her school and clubs which I think is a good thing.

mathanxiety · 26/10/2022 04:50

I think it's extremely dated.

ErinAoife · 26/10/2022 04:57

No I won't as most Lisa I know are awful women, so because of them I associate the name Lisa to being a bad person. (I know 5 Lisa and only one is alright).

KirstenBlest · 26/10/2022 08:22

I know some nice Lisas, but for some reason, in my age group it was a bit of a mean girl name.

misteriosa · 26/10/2022 10:42

I find it rather dated, yes. I can't really see 1960s/70s/80s names coming back soon - not enough time has passed. People talk about the "hundred year rule", so theoretically Lisa won't be back until about 2060. I'm also not sure whether to pronounce it Leeza (which I think is the Italian way?) or Leesa like Lisa Simpson, because I've heard both pronunciations.

drpet49 · 26/10/2022 10:46

Dated and boring
