Nicknames for 'Leanne'

ohnooooooi · 09/01/2022 13:55

My name is 'Leanne' and I really dislike it. I would love to change it, but my mother loves it and I know it would really upset her. I'm in my 20s.

I'm wondering if there are any nicknames I could take on for it instead? I used to have the nickname 'Lee' which I don't like because it sounds quite masculine. I've also sometimes been called 'Leanna' which I much prefer, and would love to change my name to 'Leanna' instead but it seems like a lot of faff just to change one letter

Any ideas?

What about Annie?

DreamGem · 09/01/2022 14:02

How about nickname Lana?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 09/01/2022 14:19

Leah could be better than Lee?

Paddingtonthebear · 09/01/2022 14:34

I know a Leah whose real name is actually Leanne

SpookyHalloween · 09/01/2022 14:35

Mine names Leanne and I've only really had people call me Lee or Leanny. My family call me Lanny. I don't mind it.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 09/01/2022 14:37

I'd go for Lea. That way you're truncating your name to something classic rather than changing it as such.

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/01/2022 15:42

Well it's you that has to live with it OP, so if you want to change it I would. I'd agree it isn't a great name. I am sure your mum wouldn't want you to be unhappy, and you can keep it as a middle name if you want.

Otherwise calling yourself Anne or Anna - which are both lovely - seems obvious and you could use Annie or Nancy as a nn if you wanted.

Leah is OK also.

brainflake · 09/01/2022 15:48

How about linking with your middle or last name?
I know a Lea-Lou (first name Leanne middle name Louise)
Also a Luann (first name Lucy middle name Ann)

bringiton23 · 09/01/2022 15:56

I love your name
I'm Roxanne always wants to be called Leanne
Brianne and Brianna are nice as well
Why don't you like it ?

TrashyPanda · 09/01/2022 16:12

Lannie is cute!

fairgame84 · 09/01/2022 16:18

My NN is Lena. My mil really struggles to say Leanne so she calls me Lena and it's stuck.

MajorCarolDanvers · 09/01/2022 16:19

Lea or
Anna

fairgame84 · 09/01/2022 16:20

I have a friend called Leanne as well but she is knows as Shelly. Her middle name is Michelle and he hates Leanne so she is Shelly. Not many people know that Shelly is not her name!

RiaOverTheRainbow · 09/01/2022 16:21

You can always go by Leanna without legally changing it.

CrackerGal · 09/01/2022 16:29

Just start calling yourself Leanna & signing your name as thar, no need to change it legally, you wouldn't change it legally to a nickname would you?

maya71 · 09/01/2022 16:34

Leah?
Lena?
Just introducing yourself as Leanna woukd be OK, surely?

MoreHairyThanScary · 09/01/2022 16:38

Leia ( Lee ah rather than Lay ah)

Dd2 is Lydia and her nn is Lula

Basically you can make you nn whatever you want when you introduce yourself!

IBelieveInAThingCalledScience · 09/01/2022 16:39

"Leelee" i.e "Lily"

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/01/2022 17:05

@brainflake

These are worse!! Lea-Lou?!?!?

I didn’t see you like Leanna OP - just change it to that.

itspartytime · 09/01/2022 17:13

I know a Leanne who's called Lenny by everyone .

Hotyogahotchoc · 09/01/2022 17:16

Lee
Anne
Annie
Laney
Leena

notacooldad · 09/01/2022 21:44

Most of the Leanne's I know are shortened to Lee. I know you say it is quite masculine but I'm not convinced. I know a quite a few women called Lee.

My first girl crush as a teenager was called Lee. She was so lovely. I have a good association with the name.

foxgoosefinch · 09/01/2022 21:49

Lia?

BeyondShrinks · 09/01/2022 21:52

Lan? Or (long A) Laan?

Yika · 09/01/2022 22:09

I know a female Leigh so wouldn't necessarily find it a masculine name.

I'd also go for Lea(h) as a shortening in your case.

Or 'L' ('elle').

Actually I like the name Leanne.
