Second baby girl due in next few weeks and still havent decided on a name!

Please help me decide. Our surname starts with F and my first daughters name starts with F.

So far on the list we have,

Fern
Liv
Neve
Betsy
Edie

Is there any of these that are not nice/have negative connotations/bad nicknames?!

Thanks for your help xx

Love the name Liv and think it is a freestanding name..
Don’t care for Fern nor Betsy.
Do you have any other potential names?
Good luck w rest of your pregnancy.

TheSandgroper · 09/01/2022 05:16

Fern - ok
Liv - agree with the unfinished comment.
Neve - for goodness sake. Do it once, do it right. It’s Niamh.
Betsy - It sounds like you couldn’t give her a proper, grown up name.
Edie - as above.

Caroline? Caroline Franklin, Caroline Fawcett, Caroline Foster? Carrie as a nn if you really like the ee suffix.

Rodion · 09/01/2022 05:55

I like Fern best.

Additional suggestions would be
Tess
Serena
Mabel
Esther

k1233 · 09/01/2022 06:08

Sweatsy Betsy - that's a no. Good you've decided against it.

3mealsaday · 09/01/2022 06:46

Edith is lovely.

Liv does sound incomplete. What about Livia and Liv for short?

Not a fan of Fern but I know many people like it.

ISmellBurnings · 09/01/2022 07:49

I don’t like Edith at all, it’s frumpy. Where as Edie is cool.

GoodnightGrandma · 09/01/2022 07:51

Liv from that list.

PartySuziPlease · 09/01/2022 08:29

Pegasussnail, I love the name Grace but feel it's a bit overdone. My husband loves it too, so strong possibility for a middle name.

Thanks for all the feedback, it's given me lots to think about!

What do people think of Violet?

OP posts:
GrendelsGrandma · 09/01/2022 08:36

Fern is the only one I like out of those. The others seem like little girl names rather than woman names.

Astrid, Hazel, Rowan, Freya, Stella?

GrendelsGrandma · 09/01/2022 08:37

I also like Violet. Though I get muddled about whether it's vile-et or vy-o-let. My grandmother was called it and pronounced it vee-o-let

Overthebow · 09/01/2022 08:45

Fern - nice name
Liv - looks strange as a stand alone band
Neve - nice name
Betsy - too cutesy. Needs to be a nickname
Edie - also too cutesy. Way too similar to Phoebe in how it sounds.

BugsyDrakeTableScape · 09/01/2022 09:01

Phoebe and Fern immediately made me think of Phineas and Ferb.....

What about Harriet? NN Hattie/Harry

cafedesreves · 09/01/2022 09:05

Edith nn Edie! I love it

Lockdownbear · 09/01/2022 09:09

I like Edith definitely not frumpy, definitely prefer it to Edie, which could look like a misspelling of Eddie, or become E-die

Violet is quite nice, but someone on here put me off by comparing it to violence on another thread.

KristinAmandaThomas · 09/01/2022 09:42

I did think Phoebe & Fern sound lovely until it reminded me of Phinneus & Ferb.

I love Violet but like Viola even better.

Also really like Liv on your list.

And I know lots of Neve spelling girls, I know you've said it's now off the list but I don't see that spelling as an issue.

Other suggestions Sylvie or Aisling or Zoe?

wandawaves · 09/01/2022 09:43

FelicityPike · 09/01/2022 09:57

@PartySuziPlease

What do people think of Violet?
Violet Grace is a lovely name!!
limitlessval · 09/01/2022 09:58

Violet is nice do you mine V or Vi as nicknames?

ISmellBurnings · 09/01/2022 10:04

Not a fan of Violet, it feels a bit prim and proper. I don’t really like old fashioned names.

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/01/2022 11:18

I love Edie if it’s short for Edith - that’s my favourite
Betsy very nice as long as short for Elizabeth
Niamh and Fern are also nice, and becoming popular (spell Niamh properly if you use it, but it does blur a bit with the endless Eves)
Liv is nice short for Olivia, but it is overused. It’s odd as a full name unless you are pronouncing it like the Scandinavian name (Leev)

Lois, Frances, Ffion, Hope, Constance (nn Connie), Ines, Caitlin, Catrin, Elsbeth, Beatrice (nn Bea), Mary might be alternatives

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/01/2022 11:18

I like Violet but it’s mega popular

Jasmine?

Jennalong · 09/01/2022 11:22

All lovely accept Liv ( my autocorrect spelt Luv ) Liv is like live .

BDavis · 09/01/2022 11:30

@BugsyDrakeTableScape I came on to suggest Harriet too 😊 Phoebe and Harriet would be lovely!

Out of your suggestions I like Fern best I think OP 😊 Violet it very pretty too 😊

I love Liv but she’d definitely have to always correct people about the Olivia thing!
