Second baby girl due in next few weeks and still havent decided on a name!

Please help me decide. Our surname starts with F and my first daughters name starts with F.

So far on the list we have,

Fern
Liv
Neve
Betsy
Edie

Is there any of these that are not nice/have negative connotations/bad nicknames?!

Thanks for your help xx

Dotdotdotdotdot, Lois was originally on the list, I really like it, but is it a bit boring?

Neve is off the list...

I think Fern is my favourite, I do really like Liv too but feel people either love it or hate it?

Neve is horrible. Going to call her Niamh, spell it correctly.
Fern is ok-ish.
Liv, no I don’t like it.
Betsy isn’t bad.
Edie is ok too.

PartySuziPlease · 08/01/2022 20:05

Is Edith a bit pearls and perm old granny? I love it but I do fear it's too old fashioned

What about Eden with Edie as nn
I love Liv
Not keen on Fern
What about Thea... works well with Phoebe or Elodie just randomly bc I love it

user1493494961 · 08/01/2022 20:12

Phoebe and Edie OK, a bit similar in sound. Don't really like any of the others, Liv seems unfinished.

user1493494961 · 08/01/2022 20:13

I know a little Edith, Edie for short.

saywhatwhatnow · 08/01/2022 20:13

Phoebe and Edie sound quite similar, I'd go for the full name Edith (it was on my list for DS2, if he'd been a girl obviously!). I also like Fern and Niamh, not so keen on the Neve spelling. Less keen on Betsy as I think it's will date, and I feel like Liv should be short Olivia although I don't actually like that name all that much.

RosesAndHellebores · 08/01/2022 20:15

Phoebe is a proper name. Therefore dd two needs a proper name.

Neeve (No, incorrect spelling)
Fern (doesn't go with Phoebe)
Betsy (short for Elizabeth which is OK)
Liv (short for Olivia which is OK)
Edie (Edith is better)

Have you thought about:

Margot
Alexine
Sybil
Celia
Agatha
Marnie

Deadringer · 08/01/2022 20:18

Edie is nice but sounds quite similar to Phoebe, at least the way i say it. I think Fern goes very well with Phoebe, don't like the others much.

toastofthetown · 08/01/2022 20:19

Fern - love Fern, by far my favourite on your list
Liv - nice, pretty and simple. Would wonder if you wanted the Scandi pronunciation withLiv as a standalone name. Would personally avoid as it will be lost in a sea of thousands of Olivias, but a good name
Neve - dislike the spelling (and not keen on the name as a whole to be honest)
Betsy - godawful (you did invite criticism!). I can't see a single appealing thing about this name. Elisabeth is lovely though
Edie - twee and feeble sounding. As you other daughter is Phoebe they sound too similar to me. Not sure I could distinguish the sounds if someone were calling down the stairs. I hate Edith as well, but I knew an awful one which probably colours my judgement

Yika · 08/01/2022 20:19

I like Fern, Liv and Neve (I like it spelt this way) but I see you've taken it off your list.

I like both Edith and Lois too. Not at all boring.

What about Faye?

LizzieAnt · 08/01/2022 20:29

Fern - not a huge fan personally
Liv - quite like this, but only as a shortened version of a full name
Neve - I don't like this spelling at all. I wouldn't really recognise it as Niamh (maybe because the actress Neve Campbell pronounces her name Nev)
Betsy - too twee for me, though I like Beth or Elizabeth
Edie - I really like Edith with Edie as a short form, but like a pp I think Edie and Phoebe are too 'rhymey'

PartySuziPlease · 08/01/2022 20:43

Lizzieant- i agree Edie and phoebe are too rhymey! I do like Eden with nn Edie.

I agree, Betsy is off the list. Its a bit frilly. Betsy off the list.

Thanks for the critical responses. I've not told any friends or family my list as i want it be a surprise. Its good to talk through it with you all

I love fern and Phoebe!!!
I think they go really nicely fern has a naturalistic connotation without being one of those wet floppy flowery girls names....

CoconutQueen · 08/01/2022 20:47

Honest opinion?

Liv is short for something ie Olivia. Strange just naming child "Liv"; it's only part of a name.

Agree with previous posters that Neve is not generally spelt like that (ie people will think you have spelt it wrongly for her whole life).

Fern is lovely. Unusual without being weird,

Edie and Betsy - ok but becoming more and more common as are many "old lady" type names that are now in fashion again.

Good luck and congratulations! Flowers

DarkDarkNight · 08/01/2022 20:58

I like your list especially Fern, Liv and Edie. Not so keen on Betsy as there are other names of that type I like better.

I think you would run in to spelling and pronunciation issues with Neve as others have said. I would pronounce Neve like the Scream actress to rhyme with rev. I like the name Niamh spelt the traditional way and like the softer pronunciation.

lochmaree · 08/01/2022 21:01

I've seen Edyth as another spelling of Edith

SandyPanda · 08/01/2022 22:32

What about Beatty?

M0rT · 08/01/2022 22:42

I like Fern from your list and Eden as a pp suggested.
I will suggest Nancy and Lucy.

Flutterflybutterby · 09/01/2022 03:43

Fern - lovely
Liv - lovely but everyone will just think she's yet another Olivia
Neve - I like Niamh, not Neve spelling
Betsy - very cute
Edie - very cute

With Betsy and Edie, I love them as nicknames but worry they're too cute as full names. Elizabeth and Edith are both lovely! Or Meredith or Eden for Edie? I think Phoebe and Eden sound lovely together, both subtly biblical but with a modern feel. I think Edith sounds better with Phoebe than Elizabeth so would choose this, and have Edie over Betsy, personally.

I think Phoebe and Fern sound adorable though! Sort of matching while not really matching so it seems cute rather than naff.

Borracha · 09/01/2022 03:46

I think Tabitha goes nicely with Phoebe

Pegasussnail · 09/01/2022 03:49

I love Edith ! Goes well with Phoebe
What about Grace ? Just think it's lovely

Lockdownbear · 09/01/2022 03:52

Phobe needs a sister needs a full name rather than a shortened version that people will ask- what's that short for!

Fern is the best of the bunch but sounds limp compared to Phobe.

What about Elodie, Wendy, or Lucy?

wandawaves · 09/01/2022 04:15

Fern- I wouldn't do another 'F' name.
Liv- looks/sounds unfinished.
Neve- I like it. I'm not in the UK though so to me it doesn't stand out as being 'the anglicised version'.
Betsy- ick, nope.
Edie- nice.

I also saw you mentioned Lois, which I think is nice!

TedsaidFred · 09/01/2022 04:24

Pheobe and Fern is great and Fern is a beautiful name for any age.
I also really like Edie from your list but agree that saying the two names together they sound very similar. Lois is gorgeous and sounds good with Pheobe also.
