How do you feel when you see your child’s name mentioned?

Just curious how you feel when you see your child’s name being discussed and the general consensus is a “hell no!” Grin

The only time I ever really see my son’s names come up is when there is a “Is this a naughty boy’s name?” thread. Grin

Incidentally, both my boys are very well behaved Grin

I’ve also just seen my name being discussed as a potential for a girl and let’s say the feedback wasn’t the most flattering Grin

The whole thing does make me smile Grin

I roll my eyes and move on.
DD has got a name that will apparently "never get her a decent career"
Someone clearly forgot to tell Cambridge. Confused

CatonMat · 26/11/2021 07:16

I'm waiting to see my name pop up as chavvy at some point.
I don't mind; horses for courses, innit? Grin

CatonMat · 26/11/2021 07:19

I've just searched, and yep.
I should be wearing a shell suit, apparently.

I think I was around before chavvy was though.

canyoutoleratethis · 26/11/2021 07:22

Mumsnet absolutely hates my DD’s name, but I couldn’t give two fucks. I think most of the names that are liked on here are ridiculously girly and woolly, so it’s just not my style (how many more Sophia’s, Grace’s or Evie’s can the world handle?!)

Imgonnakillbill · 26/11/2021 07:23

One of my boys names gets very mixed reviews - I have a laugh. We love his name, he loves his name but some of the criticisms are quite funny.

Ylvamoon · 26/11/2021 07:25

My children's names are never really discussed as they are unique... although DS name has popped up a few times as a alternative choice.

My own name however used to be a hell no but thanks to a few popularity tweaks is now considered a lovely name.

I find this baffling, a lot of people must have changed their minds just through the power of the media.

TyrannysaurusXXrightshoarder · 26/11/2021 07:28

I couldn’t care less. I would never have asked irl - do you like this name, shall I use it - and though I’d never be rude, I don’t understand why people ask on here tbh. If you like a name, use it, stuff what anyone else thinks. Incidentally, if on the v rare occasion my own very unusual, ‘forrin’ name gets discussed - it’s pretty much unanimous with the lovely, unique, beautifuls, whereas I hate it Grin

SethWho · 26/11/2021 07:28

My DD's name got "Are people just making up names now?" But I do find that can be quite a common reaction to names from other cultures.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 26/11/2021 07:31

Elder DD is usually described as 'overused, will date and 5 in every class'. (Its an old family name, she's met one other and that was in her younger sister class. Never in her own class in two nurseries and 5 schools!).

Younger DD... comes up in the underused and beautiful threads.

LoveComesQuickly · 26/11/2021 07:33

My name and DS1's name tend to receive approving comments on here which I find quite nice to read.

DD's name is categorised as 'nice but too popular' (true).

DS2's name doesn't come up much (not sure why) and I have literally never seen DH's name on a baby names thread. It's a name you'll definitely have heard of, but clearly out of fashion for the current generation of babies!

This. And “ffs don’t saddle your child with the wrong spelling”. Except the spelling is correct Confused
DaisyWaldron · 26/11/2021 07:44

My children have relatively unusual names, so I did a search for the past 5 years. DD's name was mentioned once, associated with a brand name and an animal. DS's name is apparently simple, unusual, international and possibly gothic, but has too many political associations for many posters.

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 26/11/2021 07:52

DS1s name always gets positive reviews on here.
DS2s is more mixed although people always insist it will most definitely be shortened. His isn't. Or at least so rarely that I don't notice.

My name always gets positive reviews on here too.

MrsFoxyplease · 26/11/2021 07:54

My name is apparently rising in popularity. Quite a few children are being named it ( especially in Ireland- so I've heard on here).
DD's name is either loved or twee. However I've committed the sin of giving her a filler go-to middle name. A very popular one.Grin
DS's name has a wholesome image on here. As does his middle name. Most comments are positive but I don't think either are a mumsnet favourite. A little meh I've decided.

WildStallyn · 26/11/2021 08:37

My name would be a hard no on here. No one knows how to spell it or pronounce it. I quite like it though!

WildStallyn · 26/11/2021 08:38

Both my DC names are well liked on here.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 26/11/2021 08:41

I read on here that DD1 has a Kardashian name. She most certainly does not! It’s a beautiful name and really suits her.

BiscuitLover3679 · 26/11/2021 08:42

I have a little snigger. I love that my boy has a marmite name. Honestly the ones that everyone loves on here get boring pretty fast!

Iamthemaid · 26/11/2021 08:45

My name comes up occasionally, as a suggested nice name, I don’t really like it and wouldn't sadle a child with it.

CatonMat · 26/11/2021 08:47

Mine is associated with someone connected to a particularly heinous crime now.
She wasn't born when I was named though.

PurBal · 26/11/2021 08:50

Mine, DH and DS. All get negative feedback. But I’ve openly said I dislike James for my son and there are other names too, but all these names are personal opinion. There’s nothing wrong with James by the way, I’m just not a fan of Jimmy because I knew one who was a dick.

I can't believe you called your children Tiger and Boris Shock
GlobetrottingPercy · 26/11/2021 08:57

When I was pregnant someone actually started a thread about our chosen girls name saying they had picked it and which spelling should they go with and it got absolutely slated - the majority of the comments all said ‘neither, the name is awful’. It didn’t put me off at all though and it is still our chosen name if we were to have a girl in the future.

TheSpiral · 26/11/2021 08:59

My children’s’ names are solid classics, (as is mine) so the only negative thing people have to say about them is that they are meh (from people looking for something non top 20) or sometimes that they are too popular although not often interestingly, even though they are quite popular. These things don’t bother me, they are great names and classic for a reason.
DH’s name, despite being really popular in his generation (so many of my friends married one!) is never ever mentioned on these boards even as a “that name will never come back”! @LoveComesQuickly, I wonder if your DH’s name is the same.

CoodleMoodle · 26/11/2021 09:04

For DD, it's a flowery nickname type name. Which it is, but I like it. People aren't too negative but if someone does a list of "girly" names they hate, it's usually on there.

I never really see DS's name come up, but if I do it's either classed as inoffensive or a bit dull. Which I suppose it is, but I like it too!
