Just that really.

What does everyone think of the name Elodie?

Love it.

This was my number 1 baby name but because where we are from we have been told her name will be pronounced 'Ela-deh' or everyone will keep asking if her name is Melodie. such a shame cause I am in love with the name it's just everyone else who is so negative, baby due in 9 weeks and still no name!!
hoomama · 20/11/2021 23:16

Love it!!

Garriet · 20/11/2021 23:16

It’s a lovely name

Username7521 · 20/11/2021 23:20

I know a few elodie and love the name
@Catlovermumof1 I don’t think people will have issues pronouncing it. If you love it go for it!

brightautumnflowers · 20/11/2021 23:21

It's pretty. Also consider Eloise

TurnUpTurnip · 20/11/2021 23:21

Don't like

BobbieT1999 · 20/11/2021 23:22

Beautiful - one of my favourites

AMistakePlusKeleven · 20/11/2021 23:24

I think it’s a bit twee along with Melody, sorry. I much prefer Eloise as someone suggested upthread.

TheBoots · 20/11/2021 23:24

Love it! Though speaking from experience, you will find that it confuses/stumps some people, usually older generation. For those people I usually explain it's pronounced like melody without the m.

ratussbaguss · 20/11/2021 23:38

I personally find it rather twee and a bit nothingy, I feel like it is in the same vein as lots of other girls names and they all merge into one. I don't find it a very beautiful or weighty name for a grown woman.

That said if you like it that's what matters, it's not a dreadful name.

Amdone123 · 20/11/2021 23:42

I'm surprised that I quite like this name as it isn't my usual type of preferred name ( those being Elizabeth, Catherine, Eleanor etc). It's quite trendy ( I'm sure I first heard it on The Hills ! ).
But yes I do like it.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 20/11/2021 23:43

. I don't find it a very beautiful or weighty name for a grown woman.

Conversely, I find it both of those things. Someone once said to me, it's much harder to choose a girl's name because it has to be pretty enough if she grew up to be a ballerina and strong enough if she wanted to be a nuclear physicist.
I think Elodie is pretty and having spent my life in corporatesville I'd say it's also a weighty name.

saddosauraus · 20/11/2021 23:43

Really don't like it - has no meaning or weight. Twee and meh.

Exactly my thoughts on the matter.

It lacks substance, and I wouldn’t want to be called it myself, which is my benchmark.

toastofthetown · 21/11/2021 00:20

Yet another El- name. There are currently seven in the top hundred in England and Wales: one of which is Elodie. Just dull to me.

DramaAlpaca · 21/11/2021 02:36

I think it's pretty without being at all twee.

I like Eloise too.

WeasilyPleased · 21/11/2021 03:46

I much prefer Eloise. I think Elodie is a bit faddy and will date.

garlictwist · 21/11/2021 04:05

It's quite a middle aged name in France at least.

Chunkymenrock · 21/11/2021 04:18

I just hear L. O. D.

RedRobin100 · 21/11/2021 04:20

It’s ok, but a bit twee for me. A bit sickly sweet or something

WhatHoMarjorie · 21/11/2021 06:19

FestiveMayo · 21/11/2021 06:25

I would hate it if it were my name

EishetChayil · 21/11/2021 07:39

It occupies the same function as Amelie 10 years ago - British middle class parents who think they're a little bit cool and continental.

EishetChayil · 21/11/2021 07:40

@WhatHoMarjorie

Someone once said to me, it's much harder to choose a boys' name because it has to be pretty enough if he grew up to be a ballerina and strong enough if he wanted to be a nuclear physicist.

Eh? What a bizarre notion. Why would a male ballet dancer need a pretty name?
