Name for Sikh/English girl?

PotatoSalady · 11/11/2021 10:29

Punjabi Sikh dad and English mother. We already have a 2 year old boy with a very traditional Punjabi/Sikh name - Sohan, Smileand are due with a little girl in April 2022. We would love another traditional Indian name but with easy pronunciation for our English speaking family members and school etc. We would have the middle name Kaur. Some examples of girls names we like are -

Asha
Anika
Nilam
Nina
Ameya
Elora

Which name do you like best out of these or suggestions for any more we might not have thought of? TIA xx
Smile

They are all lovely and easy for English speakers to pronounce and spell.

My favourite is Elora followed by Nina. Least favourite is Nilam - it sounds a bit masculine to my untrained ear! All the other are good.

AspidistraAnnie · 11/11/2021 10:32

I like Anika and Elora best from your list.

3peassuit · 11/11/2021 10:35

They are all lovely names. Elora is my favourite from your list.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/11/2021 10:37

One of my friends has a dd called Prianca, I think that's pretty and easy for anglophones. All your list is nice though.

SleepingStandingUp · 11/11/2021 10:37

Asha - pretty
Anika - I know a little Anika whose heritage is the opposite way round to you. It's a lovely name.
Nilam - not fond
Nina - OK but a bit bland
Ameya - lovely
Elora - my favourite

My half Punjabi niece is called Asha. I think it's a lovely name and I have never met another one either. So quite unusual as well I think.

MrsBungle · 11/11/2021 10:42

I like asha best. They’re all nice though.

EzioAuditore · 11/11/2021 10:44

I like all of them but love Asha in particular!

Bleue · 11/11/2021 10:45

All lovely imo
My favourite is Ameya followed by Anika.

Sweetleftfood · 11/11/2021 10:46

I actually quite like Nilam I know an adult one but she spells it Neelam

KloppsTeeth · 11/11/2021 10:46

I like Asha and Nina.

Bleue · 11/11/2021 10:47

Just seen pp has suggested Jaya. I really love this . I taught a 5 year old Jaya years ago and haven't come across another one since.

maras2 · 11/11/2021 10:56

Jasbir

Zarene · 11/11/2021 10:58

They're all lovely names.

A sikh friend of mine has a Deya, which I think is lovely.

tintodeverano2 · 11/11/2021 11:08

Elora is simply beautiful. But I associate it with the film Willow as that was the baby's name. I've always loved it.
Anika is lovely too.

MilkywayMonarch22 · 11/11/2021 11:09

I've met a few Asha's and think the name is gorgeous. Also love Ameya and Elora

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 11/11/2021 11:28

The only one I’m not keen on is Nilam. Ameya is beautiful, but may be misspelled as Amaya?

A friends little girl is called Anika, and it’s a gorgeous name.

Derbee · 11/11/2021 11:40

I knew a little girl called Jasminder which I already thought was lovely.

Savreen?

Asha and Nina are very pretty

Derbee · 11/11/2021 11:40

shiningstar2 · 11/11/2021 11:41

Anika is lovely from your choices. Serena is also lovely from a pp.

I think all your choices are lovely. My half Sikh/ English/greek niece is called Laylah.

Buckydoesafart · 11/11/2021 12:31

Mina (or Meena)
Anoushka
Lishka
Zoya

Irishfarmer · 11/11/2021 15:37

Found these all pretty easy to pronounce, not sure if it was correctly but think I'd be able to make a very good stab if she ever finds herself on a farm in rural Ireland! Elora is my favourite.
