Thoughts on Imogen?
I’ve loved it as a name since I first heard it and I’ve never met one - although think it’s a bit more popular over the last few years, but I don’t think it’s ever been SUPER popular?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I like it.

The only one I know is in her 30s so it can't be all that common. Think it's one of those names that holds steady rather than has massive leaps in popularity.

KirstenBlest · 09/11/2021 16:43

It's no. 91 in the top 100.

It's fine. Classic and inoffensive shakespearean name.
It will get shortened to Immy though, if that's an issue

toastofthetown · 09/11/2021 17:00

It was #52 in England and Wales last year. it peaked at #26 in 2010 and has been in the top hundred for around thirty years. It's a nice enough name, if a little dull sounding to me. I really don't like the nickname Immy though.

Lovely name with lots of different nickname potentials if you wanted.

The name has been falling in the charts for years so a good time to pick it. Here's the graph of the official statistics 📉:

I like it. Classic and doesn't date.
I know one in her 50s and another who's about 10. Suits them both.

SummaLuvin · 09/11/2021 17:52

I'm not enamoured with it, something about the consonants in the middle don't work sonically for me. But I knew one nicknames Momo and I thought it was really cute/cool, she is early twenties.

Fivebeanchilli · 09/11/2021 19:11

I love it. I know one in her 50s, one age 14 and one age 6.

Splashinginpuddles15 · 09/11/2021 19:23

I am a teacher and Imogen has such positive vibes to me . All the Imogens I have ever taught have been lovely . I currently teach 4 Imogen’s between the ages of 12 -16 . None of them shorten it .

seriousandloyal · 09/11/2021 19:49

Beautiful name

DukeofEarlGrey · 09/11/2021 19:50

Beautiful

Jossbow · 09/11/2021 19:52

I like it, The one I knew outgrew Immy and is now known as Gen ( Jen)

Dsisproblem · 09/11/2021 19:54

Love it. I know an Imogen who goes by Ginny which I thought was unusual

MadeOfStarStuff · 09/11/2021 19:54

I really like it

SophieHatterPendragon · 09/11/2021 19:55

I’m biased because I have one. Haven’t met another in the 2 years she’s been alive under 30! I only know one other via work

I think it’s beautiful. We do use Immie for a nick name but a friend has a friend called Imogen and she’s nicked names Imo apparently

ElfDragon · 09/11/2021 19:59

It’s a classic that is always around, but never super popular.

I know quite a few, ranging in age from 18 down to 6. None shorten to Immy. One is Ginny, another Jen, another one is Midge. The others are all Imogen.

It’s a really lovely name.

Winecheesesleep · 09/11/2021 20:03

I love it, it was on our shortlist for DD.

iamio · 09/11/2021 20:07

We have a Imogen who is 5 months old, so we like it Smile

sageandbasil · 09/11/2021 20:36

I love it. I know 3, 2 are in their 30s and one is 12. It's such a pretty name

SE13Mummy · 09/11/2021 23:50

Love it! I know one in her late twenties, a couple aged 17 ish, a 12-yr-old and a couple in their 40s. Nicknames include Immy, Mo, Immo, Jen and Jenny.

I like the soft sounds but definite ending i.e. it doesn't end with an 'uh' or 'ee' sound that so many girls names do. Other names in a similar vein include Rachel, Miriam, Edith, Helen, Bethan, Ruth, Ellen, Eloise...

CailleachO · 09/11/2021 23:51

I actually hate it. It's not a nice sounding name. It always reminds me of biotech company.

DramaAlpaca · 09/11/2021 23:54

I really like it.

crymeapuddle · 09/11/2021 23:58

Love that name, don't know any and I think it's the perfect time to use it.

OrangeAndYellowAndBlue · 10/11/2021 07:04

I love it. I've only met a handful of them, and no little Imogens in a long while.

It fits with current names by being quite vowel heavy, but pleasingly doesn't end with a vowel.

I'm never sure if it works with our surname, which also ends -en, but I'm tempted!

elfran · 10/11/2021 07:08

I love it, so beautiful. Immy isn't a foregone conclusion; I know one who is a Mo, and Gen/Ginny works too. As with any nickname, the trick if you want to avoid a particular shortening is to introduce an alternative from the get-go, use it relentlessly and most importantly, teach her to correct people who don't use it!

armisthere · 10/11/2021 07:14

I think it's beautiful. But I'm biased as it's my daughter's name :) She's mid 20, goes by Immi and loves her name - both the king and the short versions.
