Hi,

What does everyone think of the name Boris?

My grandfather is called Boris and I really like the way it sounds.

And before anyone asks, the association with Boris Johnson doesn’t bother me.

It just sounds very Russian/ Eastern European to me. Anyone I've known with the name has come from these countries.

Great dc's book collection!!

Bo as a nn?

Enko · 07/10/2021 11:13

Really wouldn't in the current political climate. However to be honest I wouldn't have done it 10 years ago either a firm no for me

thingymaboob · 07/10/2021 11:14

HuckleberryJam · 07/10/2021 11:15

anniepanniepears123 · 07/10/2021 11:17

Naw no way !

Comedycook · 07/10/2021 11:18

Objectively it's a great name.

I actually think it would be pretty popular if it wasn't for our dear leader

HairBobbles · 07/10/2021 11:18

Awful

Feelslikealot · 07/10/2021 11:20

Objectively i don't like it as a name. I don't like the sound or look of it. Would be ok for a second name. Also the Johnson thing might not bother you but will it bother you child going through school with that association?

TidyDancer · 07/10/2021 11:26

If you're in the UK I really wouldn't do this. It's not a great time to use it.

Geamhradh · 07/10/2021 11:29

Even without the connection, it just conjures either a very stereotypical possibly Russian character in a silly Bond film or a bumbling idiot.

Obviously Alexander mis-read "bumbling idiot" as "affable larger than life character" when he decided to ditch his real first name.

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 07/10/2021 11:30

People will assume that You Know Who is the father, after all, he has many many children by many women so it’s not that far-fetched.
And it’s a horrible name - Russian mafia / oligarch / sleazy tennis player
And worst of all, people will assume you’re a Tory.

Lockdownbear · 07/10/2021 11:31

I'd maybe use it as a middle name. The other association people will have is Boris Becker the German tennis player. I've always assumed it was a German name because of him.

alpinerain · 07/10/2021 11:33

I'm really not a fan, sorry. But if you love it than you should go go for it!

GlitterBiscuits · 07/10/2021 11:34

You can't.

TataMamma · 07/10/2021 11:38

This.
Gingernaut · 07/10/2021 11:41

Make it a middle name, maybe, but don't saddle the poor little mite with that as a first name

AlexaShutUp · 07/10/2021 11:45

The name itself is OK but I could not personally get past the negative associations with our esteemed leader.

AdoptedBumpkin · 07/10/2021 11:46

Not for me, especially with the Johnson connection.

B0G0F · 07/10/2021 12:00

I have a friend called Boris, and I like the name.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/10/2021 12:04

There's also Boris Karloff.

Speaking as someone whose first name was tainted by another PM, and still is even though she's been dead some years and out of power for a generation, I'd say think carefully about this.

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/10/2021 12:07

You might not care about the association but your child might.

B0G0F · 07/10/2021 12:31

I hope that clown won't be in office much longer

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 07/10/2021 12:47

I used to know an adorable little bull dog puppy called Boris. Grin
