A sister for Alice

We have just found out we are having DD2. DD1 is called Alice. It is a name I have always loved and was very set on the name in my first pregnancy. I know it gets mixed reactions here but it really suits DD1 and she loves it. She likes the wonderland connection and her room is decorated with prints etc from the book. I would love to find another girl’s name that also has a strong connection to a story and the possibility of nice prints, etc.
Names that could work but we can’t use as key family members already have the name are:
Matilda, Sophie and Clara.
Any ideas welcome, thanks

Lucy. Definitely.

I agree not to go for a theme.

I have 2 DD. One has a name with an obvious theme / connection. In the early days I went nuts and got her anything that was related to her name (think pictures, clothes, even wrapping paper). The novelty wore off. DD2 has an un-themed name that I utterly adore.

I know a few Alice's and they have sisters called
Penelope
Martha
Skye
Annabelle

Frances.

Lucy was my first thought on seeing your thread title and it works with Lucy from the Narnia books in terms of having a literary connection.

I wouldn't worry about finding another name from a children's book though.

Some names I think go well with Alice generally:
Emma
Lydia
Isabel
Anna
Emily
Rose

I have an Alice and if ds had been a girl he would have been Lydia, Harriet, Caroline or Cordelia.

Phoebe? Could do a bee theme?

Lucy, Charlotte or Harriet!

VanillaAndOrange · 06/10/2021 22:06

If you were just looking for names that go well with Alice, I think my first thoughts would have been Lucy or Charlotte too, or maybe Florence or Louise.

Names with a good book or series of books associated with them - that's a bit harder. Maybe Katie (Katie Morag)? Polly? (Can you still get Clever Polly and the Stupid Wolf books?)

SharpieHarpie · 06/10/2021 22:18

Laura (Little House on the Prairie) or Lucy (Narnia) are great shouts.

I know two baby Alices with sisters Grace and Annabel. And a grown up Alice with sister Anna.

What about a nature name? Robin, Holly, Willow, Daisy etc?

Or a colour? Scarlett, Amber, Jade?

Lola? Kitty? Emma, Angelina?

Nancy

(As in Nancy Drew)

Or Katy as in What Katy did

timoteigirl · 06/10/2021 22:36

@MrsBertBibby

Dear God you can't call a child after Daisy in The Great Gatsby! Have you not read it?!
People name their daughters Ophelia and other names - some are not bothered by these connections but want something phonetically attractive.
Pieceofpurplesky · 06/10/2021 22:39

Alice and Emma

Alice and Beatrix

snowspider · 06/10/2021 22:40

Violet Just William or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Susan Swallows and Amazons
Mary The Secret Garden

timoteigirl · 06/10/2021 22:49

I suggest Alice & Grace.

But if it has to be literary character name what about Primrose, Katniss's little sister? Annika, Pippi Longstocking's friend? Seraphina the witch with Lyra? Madeline the French school girl? Isolde from Tristan & Isolde/ Iseult? Annabeth from Percy Jackson? Scarlett from Gone with the Wind? Luna (Lovegood) Rosalind from Shakespeare? Linnea from the Christina Bjork book titled Linnea In Monet's Garden?

snowspider · 06/10/2021 22:52

Lola. Charlie and Lola
Clara. The Nutcracker
Galadriel. Lord of the Rings
Sara. A Little Princess

SaltySheepdog · 07/10/2021 01:06

Alice is a great name.

Rose 🌹

bloominglovelyorange · 08/10/2021 09:50

I think Lucy or Holly would be perfect

tearsforfears72 · 08/10/2021 10:05

Anne (like Anne of Green Gables) would be lovely with Alice

Evanna13 · 17/10/2021 21:50

What about a family name, you could tell her the story of who she us named after and why that's so special

or the name of a beautiful flower ( Rose etc)

Or a name with a beautiful meaning ( Anna etc)

There are lots of ways a name can be special and meaningful
