Help choosing a name for my baby girl

My husband and I have been working on names since we found out we’ll be having a little girl. At first we realized we had VERY different taste in baby names, but have since agreed on two options that we both like and need help choosing between the two. Do you prefer:

Lottie Wren
Wren Lorelei

For context, Wren is the only name that we both came up with independently. My husband LOVES the name Lottie. He is a very realistic, in the moment person and rarely has very strong opinions about anything. Months before we were even trying to conceive, we watched a show and there was a girl named Lottie and he said “that’s a great name. If we have a little girl one day, we should consider Lottie.” If we go with Lottie, that will be here name. It won’t be a nickname for anything. We threw around the idea of having it be a nickname but decided 1) we should just name our kid what we will call them and 2) her last name will be hyphenated and we don’t want to make things more complicated. Lastly, Lorelei is another name we both decided we really liked, but worried it would be too long with a hyphenated last name. Anyway, sorry for the novel. Any input would be appreciated!

The first one seems to flow that bit better, but both are nice x

StevieNix · 21/09/2021 18:52

I love Lorelei so I would pick that as the first name - Lorelei Wren is gorgeous
The other two options are also nice, slightly prefer Lottie Wren as it flows a bit better

mathanxiety · 21/09/2021 18:53

Both are very nice.

I would go with Lorelei Wren, and my second choice would be Lottie Wren.

I don't see a problem with a three syllable first name followed by a longer surname - I actually think a shower, soft name like Wren would be lost with a longer surname. I think you need a longer first name to balance the long surnames.

Alfxn · 21/09/2021 18:56

If you are really between the two, whereas your husband has one he greatly prefers, I would go with that one for sure.

I think it's quite sweet that he had a name in mind before you were ever even pregnant!

Lottie.

mairiflowers · 21/09/2021 19:03

I think Lottie Wren is much nicer.

AnyaMoondial · 21/09/2021 19:07

Lottie Wren is great.

Hopefullysweatmightbewee · 21/09/2021 19:11

It’s so cute he’s so enthusiastic about a name! My DH was ambivalent about everything.

Lottie Wren is lovely. I much prefer Lottie to Lorelei.

Flidina · 21/09/2021 19:29

Lottie wren, sounds lovely, Lorelei Wren is nice, but prefer the first one.

Thank you all so far for your feedback. It’s interesting to see how people in different places respond to names. My husband and I are Americans. I’ve posted this question in a few forums. One with a mostly American audience, one with a very international audience, and here. The American opinion seems to be that Lottie is a nickname and we should pick a longer name and call her Lottie or the prefer Wren because it’s not a nickname. Almost everyone else in the world seems to think Lottie Wren is better 😂

Lottie Wren.

The only Lorelei I’ve come across (little toddler) went by Lori. Lori Wren is quite similar to Lottie, but then you didn’t want a nickname different to the birth certificate.

Elisemum · 21/09/2021 19:36

I like both. Lorelei like the one from Gilmore girls? Then a nickname would be Rory.. anyway both options are nice!

DebbieHarrysCheekbones · 21/09/2021 19:37

Both gorgeous

cestunestilo · 21/09/2021 19:39

As a person who has to spell my name to all and sundry, I'd say Lottie, as you daughter might well get fed up spelling Lorelie out to everyone like I do !

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 21/09/2021 19:41

Wren Lorelei
Or
Lorelei Wren
Or
Charlotte Wren with nn Lottie
Or even
Carlotta Wren with nn Lottie

GreyGoose1980 · 21/09/2021 19:55

I also like Charlotte as the full name Lottie as nn as I think Lottie suits some people more than others and Charlotte gives her the chance to be Charlie when she’s older if she isn’t keen on Lottie for any reason.

DramaAlpaca · 21/09/2021 19:56

Of your choices, Lottie Wren.

Itsnotdeep · 21/09/2021 19:58

I'm not American, but I'd say that Lottie is a nickname and you should register the baby as Charlotte. Lottie Wren is the best combination.

Bobsyer · 21/09/2021 22:50

I think it's really weird registering a child with a name you're not intending on ever using for them do totally disagree with @Itsnotdeep

I prefer Lottie Wren as well Smile.

mathanxiety · 22/09/2021 00:25

I actually think a shower, soft name...

I can't remember what I was going for here, but it wasn't shower.

Maybe shorter?

PaolaDiLorenzo · 22/09/2021 00:32

Lorelei is lovely, reminds me of Gilmore Girls.I would use that as a first name.

Balonzette · 22/09/2021 10:59

Lorelei Wren 💜

stickygotstuck · 22/09/2021 11:06

They are both nice, as would any combination of the 4. I'd go for Lottie Wren.

Oh, and from experience short middle names are best for hyphenated surnames Smile

Kyoshi · 26/09/2021 16:23

I like Lottie Lorelai! I love alliteration though and I’m not a fan of Wren.

ILoveShula · 26/09/2021 18:37

I don't like Lorelei or Wren. Lottie is pretty.
