We like Ted as stand alone name, what do you think?

I like it.
One of my cats is called Ted, but I would happily name a child that if I was to have another boy (and hadn't already given it my cat).

RuthW · 20/09/2021 16:42

Dreadful in my opinion. Sorry

Iwantcauliflowercheese · 20/09/2021 16:45

Absolutely no. Name him Edward, Edwin or Theodore and call him Ted. I know someone who was given a nickname instead of the full name and he has found it embarrassing.

ofwarren · 20/09/2021 16:46

I really don't like it.
I don't like Teddy either. I much prefer Edward.

EllieSattler · 20/09/2021 16:49

I think its fine. My family had conniptions when a relative gave their child a 'nickname' - think Ben not Benjamin, Jamie not James, that sort of thing. Said child is now an adult and it hasn't done them any harm at all.

I knew an adult Ted. Lovely man, emigrated to Australia. He may have been Edmund or something but he was always, always Ted. I know a young Ted too, he's really cool :)

Aquamarine1029 · 20/09/2021 16:51

Absolutely not.

Scarby9 · 20/09/2021 16:53

Of course you can call him Ted.
He may later acquire a nickname such as Edward!

Cyberworrier · 20/09/2021 16:55

I'd say it's pretty different to the Ben/Benjamin comparison. Ted is sweet on boys and nice on men, but there could well be personal or professional reasons why someone would want to be able to use a less cutesy name. Why would you potentially limit your child's options by using the nickname as a name, particularly with a name like Ted. Edward and Theodore etc are nice names (and offer alternative nicknames in case your baby feels they've grown out of Ted at primary or secondary)

HoldingTheDoor · 20/09/2021 17:12

I'm not a fan but it's better than the ridiculously twee Teddy.

Blubells · 20/09/2021 17:14

Definitely not!

Theodore, Edward, Thaddeus are such lovely names and give much more options.

gogohm · 20/09/2021 17:15

Call him Edward legally then he has a proper name for school, university and work and a variety of possible nicknames he can choose. Ted or teddy is lovely for a baby but by teen years he may prefer Ed to his friends

molsmumx · 20/09/2021 17:16

Looove the name Ted!

Mermaidpool · 20/09/2021 17:17

I don't live it but don't mind it, please don't go for teddy though it's awful

Kindertonguehappierlife · 20/09/2021 17:18

Definitely needs a longer name IMO

Ughmaybenot · 20/09/2021 17:19

One of my best friends is a Ted so while I may be biased, I am rather fond of it as a name… but it’s short for Edward.
I wouldn’t put just Ted on the BC. Either Edward or Theodore, personally.

HawksAreRed · 20/09/2021 17:21

Definitely prefer it to Teddy. But it does seem incomplete.

EdgeOfACoin · 20/09/2021 17:58

I wouldn't.

CentralPerkk · 20/09/2021 18:05

I think I would go with Edward too but call him Ted. I'm not fond of Ed

CentralPerkk · 20/09/2021 18:05

Oh yes and I don't like Teddy so much

stairgates · 20/09/2021 18:12

If you like Ted then go with Ted, I think Edward will more likely become Eddy or Woody especially when he hits school and develops his own thing :)

Blubells · 20/09/2021 18:30

Call him Tedward Grin

rwalker · 20/09/2021 18:31

love it but christen him Edward the he has the choice when he's older

rwalker · 20/09/2021 18:33

Ohh that if your going to christen him we did something similar .

christerned/registered full name we call him by the short version of it .

manhattenrain · 20/09/2021 19:26

I really don't like it, sorry.

Blubells · 20/09/2021 19:57

I doesn't travel well into other languages imo.

Theodore or Thaddeus would work better.
