Since everyone wasn’t a fan of Prairie 😂, I thought it was kind of cute. How do you guys feel about the name Hudson, for a boy of course

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Love the name Hudson, it’s one of those names that just some how manages to sound strong & soft at the same time…kind of like the name Noah

MrsRobbieHart · 13/09/2021 20:32

It’s a river in New York. The one where the plane landed. That was my first thought.

Popcornbetty · 13/09/2021 20:32

I think surname…Kate Hudson

BirdyBee · 13/09/2021 20:32

I love it!

MissConductUS · 13/09/2021 20:33

I live by the Hudson River. I think it's a lovely name for a boy.

SeigneurLapindeGrantham · 13/09/2021 20:35

Upstairs Downstairs.

ChrissyPlummer · 13/09/2021 20:36

It’s a surname.

Tempusfudgeit · 13/09/2021 20:36

'Game over, man, game over!'

MadMadMadamMim · 13/09/2021 20:37

It sounds very American.

TheGriffle · 13/09/2021 20:37

I just think of the river, so no good or bad connections. It does feel very American a to me for that reason though, obviously.

PalmarisLongus · 13/09/2021 20:38

Is he a hawk?
Or a river in New York?

Thunderbolted · 13/09/2021 20:39

Feels a bit common to me, like Jaxon or that sort of name.

MissConductUS · 13/09/2021 20:40

@MadMadMadamMim

It sounds very American.
Henry Hudson was a Brit.
IglesiasPiggle · 13/09/2021 20:40

I love it.

MrsFin · 13/09/2021 20:43

I don't like any of the names that end in '-son':
Hudson
Jackson/Jaxson
Madison
Harrison
Mason
Grayson
Jason
Etc.

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 13/09/2021 20:45

I really like it. I'm not keen on those style of names but I do really like Hudson as it seems more of a Christian name than say Mason/Riley/Grayson etc.

Guardup · 13/09/2021 20:48

I know a little boy called Hudson and he is a peach. To me it just makes me smile as he is such a kind, caring boy so I think of him.

Ruthietuthie · 13/09/2021 20:52

Hudson Bay... that's my initial thought. The fur trade, Canada...
Very North American.

I live in the US, but am from the UK. I recently met a family at my little boy's school whose little boy is called Bradford... They didn't know it was a place in the UK. And I didn't want to disillusion them by mentioning that Bradford was a rather grotty, depressed post-industrial town. I have the same feeling about Hudson - have you been there?

Do you have a connection to the place? Or to Henry Hudson, 17th century explorer and bringer of typhus, measles and small-pox to Native Americans? Or to death, misery, and colonialism?

Foxymoxy68 · 13/09/2021 20:52

Our 3 year old grandson is called Hudson. I think it’s a lovely name! 👦

MissConductUS · 13/09/2021 20:55

I have the same feeling about Hudson - have you been there?

Been where? The city of Hudson, NY? The Hudson Valley or the Hudson Highlands, all of which are lovely?

LizzieBet14 · 13/09/2021 21:00

I think surname or dog....

Aquamarine1029 · 13/09/2021 21:02

@ChrissyPlummer

It’s a surname.
Yes, but it's also been used as a given name for well over 100+ years. What difference does that make anyway? Confused
Wole · 13/09/2021 21:03

@MrsRobbieHart

It’s a river in New York. The one where the plane landed. That was my first thought.
Same. I prefer Mason.
RoseMartha · 13/09/2021 21:05

It is better than Prairie if you had a thread about that.

Haffdonga · 13/09/2021 21:07

I'd assume you're from the US or you have special memories of New York or a personal association with the river or surname.

Otherwise it's a bit like an American calling their child Thames for no reason except it's cute.
