Love.

TwinsandTrifle · 12/09/2021 15:19

Dull. Bland. Unoriginal.

But this is probably biased because I've known 4 Charlottes, and they've all been dull.

nc86952 · 12/09/2021 15:20

I like Charlotte. I like the register of the name, IYSWIM.

Don't like the nicknames Lottie or Charlie.

Do like the nickname Lotta or Carly, if that is not too much of a stretch.

I’m not a fan but generally like old traditional names.
I think the reason I’m not a fan is because it sounds nice only if said with certain accents. I like hearing different and regional accents but this name doesn’t lend itself to being pronounced in different or regional tones. Most of the time it is mangled.

ChrissyPlummer · 12/09/2021 15:24

It’s my name so I like it! I’m never ‘Lottie’ as we all hate it - too twee. Always been Charley/Charl/Chaz. I was born in the late 1970s and was the only one in the school all the way through primary school, one of three in secondary.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 12/09/2021 15:26

Like it. It's a elegant classic with some great historical namesakes that just happens to be more popular again at the moment (but being so traditional, I can't see it dating like some other popular names). Also handy that it has very different style nn's - Charlie, Lottie, Carly, Callie etc, so she can make the name "suit her" if she doesn't like the full Charlotte.

HeronLanyon · 12/09/2021 15:30

I don’t have a feeling about it one way or another. Perfectly good name.
Don’t like Charlie. Dont mind lottie (although tweenfactor needs to be avoided). Know a char (pronounced Shar) in the USA where it is not uncommon nn.

MissJeanBrodiesprime · 12/09/2021 15:30

Somehow pretty and dull at the same time

Heartsinflowers · 12/09/2021 15:31

Its fine , slightly stuffy as another poster said. Bit of a boring wet lettuce name to me but not offensive

EarPlugAfficionado · 12/09/2021 15:36

Boring. I don’t like the sh sound. It’s close to names like Charmaine, Charlene etc which are horrendous.

DustyMaiden · 12/09/2021 15:37

I have 35 year old Charlotte. I think it has not become dated. My DGM was a Charlotte.

Elderflower14 · 12/09/2021 15:54

It's my name. Ive been called Charlotte, Charlie Lottie and Lots over the years!

BusySittingDown · 12/09/2021 16:00

Love it! One of my favourite names. Love all the nicknames too!

Midnightstar76 · 12/09/2021 16:37

Love that name OP. My niece is called Lottie which always reminds me of Charlotte but yes great name choice

NigellaSeed · 12/09/2021 16:38

Normal name. Boring but not ugly. Could think of 100 nicer names tbh

Fifthtimelucky · 12/09/2021 19:50

Timeless classic name which was on my shortlist. I have liked every Charlotte I have ever known, starting with one at primary school in the 1960s.

Didn't use it as it didn't go very well with our surname and because it includes the word 'harlot'.

TheRabbitStoleMyHat · 12/09/2021 20:02

It’s ok but I know so many Charlottes.

WaitinginVain · 12/09/2021 20:28

I agree with a PP that it's both pretty and dull.

I do quite like the full name but none of the abbreviations.

xprincessxjanetx · 12/09/2021 21:22

I love it, classic name that never ages. Has good nickname options too.

LittleGwyneth · 13/09/2021 20:30

Pretty much the perfect name.

pateandbrie · 13/09/2021 20:44

Love it, my DD is a Charlotte, it really suits her and she is anything but dull! To me Charlotte is a fierce little girl in a princess dress and stripy wellies 😂

MeredithGreyishblue · 13/09/2021 20:47

I like it. But the T often doesn't get pronounced .

So you hear Sharl-uh.

danascully96 · 14/09/2021 22:26

Charlotte makes me think of a charming woman with a rosy glow and enchanting, natural elegance. Dependable, surprising in her thoughtfulness, and soft but learned in demeanor.

I definitely agree that Charlotte evokes romantic Jane Austen vibes. If you can’t tell, it’s one of my favorites. My only caveat is it shouldn’t be paired with a long surname as it then becomes much too stuffy.

tickledtiger · 14/09/2021 22:44

It’s great, the nicknames are cool and it’s safe and well known.

thinkover · 15/09/2021 14:07

Dull. And a bit 80s/90s
