Love Josephine, with benefits of NNs Joey/josie

Prefer Sylvie to Sylvia.

Dont like the others but if you like Felicity how about Verity?

BiBabbles · 06/09/2021 16:13

I really like Sylvia and Adeline.

I also quite like Josephine, but wouldn't with Juliet. Having shared initials with my siblings, I wouldn't recommend it.

The others are also nice, but I'd rank lower.

Smurftastic · 06/09/2021 17:17

@eddiemairswife

As you have a Juliet it might be wise not to have another 'J' name. Could lead to confusion with correspondence addressed to Miss/Ms J. ......
Good point.

Love Verity, but can't use it unfortunately!

Juliet and Felicity sound like sisters

RavenclawsRoar · 06/09/2021 17:25

I love Celeste and Serena - those are my top choices.
Bianca and Josephine are a hard no. I really dislike both - they sound clunky to me.
The rest I like, although I'm not totally sold on Cecilia.

Synchrony · 06/09/2021 17:45

I seem to be in the minority liking Bianca! I think Juliet and Bianca are lovely together and very Shakespearian. I like most of your names except Josephine (love the name, just not with Juliet).

DDSMUM2 · 06/09/2021 18:19

Help! How do you choose between two baby names.. DS is a week old now and we still can’t decide!

Smurftastic · 06/09/2021 18:21

@DDSMUM2 is it 6 weeks from birth you have to decide? What about start calling him one of the names for next week or so and see if it feels right?

OP posts:
minmooch · 06/09/2021 18:23

I love Celeste

How about Cecily rather than Cecilia.

WhoppingBigBackside · 06/09/2021 18:23

I like Bianca too.

@DDSMUM2, you could start your own thread and if you post a photo of your DS, you will get lots of replies. Congratulations, Flowers

minmooch · 06/09/2021 18:23

Sylvie rather than Sylvia

Smurftastic · 06/09/2021 18:27

@minmooch

I love Celeste

How about Cecily rather than Cecilia.

I don't like Cecily as it's too easy to rhyme 'Silly Cecily' Blush. Probably silly of me to think so!

  1. Adeline
  2. Camilla
  3. Celeste

These are the only ones I like. I do like Josephine but not together with Juliet really. I prefer Cecile to Cecilia.

Roonilwazlib1 · 06/09/2021 18:34

Adeline - love this, its on my list too!
Bianca - dislike
Camilla - not keen but love camille
Cecilia - pretty
Celeste - ok
Daphne - not keen
Felicity - not keen
Josephine - not keen
Serena - ok
Sylvia - ok, really like Sylvie as a nn!

Marlena1 · 06/09/2021 18:35

Adeline - 2
Bianca -4 (This would be higher if wasnt for EE)
Cecilia - 5
Celeste -3
Serena - 1

The would be joint 6th

SoSoSoSleepy · 06/09/2021 19:59

Adeline - meh, I like Ada a lot
Bianca - horrible, Eastenders vibes
Camilla - bit royal / horsey - Camille is lovely, or Camelia
Cecilia - it's ok, reminds me of Francesca - a bit 'la de da', but basically fine
Celeste - prefer Selena
Daphne - love
Felicity - bit horsey, but lovely meaning
Josephine - nice
Serena - love
Sylvia - really love

thamesk8 · 07/09/2021 23:53

Adeline - not keen.
Bianca - I really like the sound and idea of this. True, Eastenders ruined it but wasn’t that AGES ago. None of her classmates will know. And great aunt Ethel will grow tired of comparing her to Patsy Palmer! I actually really like Patsy too! 😂
Camilla- beautiful. Was on our list. I like Mills and Cami. Juliet and Camilla sound perfect!
Cecilia - gorgeous.
Celeste - really gorgeous. But annoyingly I reminded me of detest!
Daphne - so cute.
Felicity - can’t stand this name, or anyone with this name, sadly.
Josephine - never been a fan. To frumpy and clunky. And I’d avoid another J name.
Serena - gorgeous again.
Sylvia - as is this!

Tough but camilla, Celeste or Serena would win for me x

Smurftastic · 08/09/2021 00:42

The more I think about the more I'm leaning towards Serena.
Would it get shortened to Rennie? Not keen as it's a medicine!

Also not sure if it works with middle name though: Serena Joyce.
I noticed one of the characters in Handmaid's Tale is Serena Joy, which is not a pleasant association! Don't think it matters too much though.

What does everyone think about Selena and would you pronounce it Seh-le-na or Seh-lee-na?

OP posts:
LanisHouseLot · 08/09/2021 02:25

I would pronounce it Seh-lee-nuh.

LanisHouseLot · 08/09/2021 02:28

And I think Reenie or Reena (even if spelled with one e) would be a more natural nickname than Rennie, so I wouldn't worry about the medicine association personally.

Serena Joyce sounds lovely to me. I like that the words serene and joy jump out as they sound so peaceful and happy.

Amz6219 · 08/09/2021 10:33

Adeline - Lovely
Bianca - Eastenders
Camilla - Parker-Bowles
Cecilia - Lovely
Celeste - This with Daphne, the two girls from the 90s! But I do like it...
Daphne - as Celeste
Felicity - nice
Josephine - old lady
Serena - Williams
Sylvia - old lady

I really like Adeline, Cecilia and Felicity. Celeste is nice, but not keen on the rest

Enko · 08/09/2021 11:51

Lovely name choices

Bianca
Cecilia
Celeste
Daphne
Serena
Sylvia

Are all great but yea i think Serena will get Ren/rennie

My favourite is Daphne It was on our short list for dd2 but she didn't feel like a Daphne

crossstitchcat · 08/09/2021 12:20

Love daphne
I like Josephine
The rest are ok except Bianca not keen.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 08/09/2021 17:59

The couple of Serena's I've met don't get their names shortened. Serena Joyce is fine - I made the Serena Joy connection but most people won't even be aware of your DD's middle name.

Selena is equally lovely (with a nice meaning and mythology in the Greek Goddess Selene). But you might get the occasional person spelling it Selina instead. It's always "Seh -lee -na" as far as I know?
