Please help, my partner and I have finally managed to shorten our list to just three names, we are due our little girl in 5 weeks! Which name do you prefer, Evelyn, Freya or Nina?

Another vote for Nina

Thanks @EdgeOfACoin, unfortunately they are significantly older. If I’m honest I was quite taken aback at their response too. I know in the past if others have mentioned a potential name choice to me, even ones I really am not keen on, I’m always very kind in my responses, which usually engenders a conversation about other names I might think are more suitable/ nicer, but is done in a very subtle manner!

Nina ❣️

I love the name Nina. I’ve only known a few Nina’s over the years from a range of ages and backgrounds. I like that it’s international, sophisticated and pronounced the same more or less wherever you go. Your relative sounds quite rude to be honest, I’d ignore and choose the name you love. Good luck.

My favourite is Freya - v pretty. I also like Evelyn and all its nicknames.

I like Nina in theory but knew a very nasty Nina so it’s forever tainted!

Nina is beautiful. Too many Evelyns.

Why not wait until you meet your baby.
None of the names we liked seemed right when we had our first child.
Appropriating a name, before you meet them, may create images of what they might look like, based on prior knowledge of relatives, friends, characters etc...

1st choice - Freya - DD has an absolutely lovely friend called Freya so I may be slightly biased.

2nd choice - Nina - I have a friend with this name, she is an amazing woman and everyone loves her.

3rd choice - Evelyn - DD was born in a year where Evie/Eva/Evelyn/Eve were extremely popular. It’s put me off these names slightly.

Bananarama21 · 03/09/2021 21:42

I'd say nina.

PricklesTheHedgehog · 03/09/2021 22:17

Freya is the prettiest.

Evelyn is quite nice.

Nina is a no from me. It just makes me think of a toddler impersonating a police siren (sorry).

MsTSwift · 03/09/2021 22:36

Please avoid all Eve names totally overused. At one point one third of the girls in dds class were named a variant of Eve. Hard no. Mina is great.

MsTSwift · 03/09/2021 22:36

Nina

MsTSwift · 03/09/2021 22:37

Eve is the equivalent of Sarah in the late 70s

EmeraldGreenVelvet · 03/09/2021 22:53

Nina. It's got a bit of sass that the others don't have. And it's less common.
Second choice Freya
Third choice Evelyn

Eve is the equivalent of Sarah in the late 70s

Hadn't thought of it like that. DD has a lot of contemporaries called some variation of Eve and I have quite a few friends called Sarah.
