Hi all,

4 years ago we tested our daughters name for pronunciation here (on morning of registration!). It was really helpful & accurate so thought would try again now that we have a newborn boy. Preferred name is Rian, how would you pronounce:

  1. Ree-un
  2. Ryan
  3. Ree-ahn
  4. Ree-anne
Any others?

We may play around with spellings if there is ambiguity. Thanks again !

I would also say Ree Ann. I definitely wouldn’t say Ryan because I’d presume the spelling was to differentiate it from Ryan, as if you wanted to name your child Ryan you’d spell it that way.

  1. I’d just assume it was an alternative spelling

I know two Rians- one Irish and one Indian. Both pronounce their name REE-an

I know 2 Rian’s one pronounced it 1, the other 3/4 (both would be pronounced the same in my accent).

I'd say Ree-un, emphasis on first syllable. I'm in Ireland. It's a boys' name

Im not in Ireland but have known a handful of Rians, and would say the same. It is an Irish boys name, not a welsh girls name.

I'm dyslexic, I can't see past pronouncing it as Rain so I'd just copy what everyone else said!

My sons definitely have Indian friends called this.

"Rian is a baby boy name mainly popular in the Hindu religion and its main origin is Hindi. Rian name meaning is kingly." wiki.
