Rian pronounciation

Hi all,

4 years ago we tested our daughters name for pronunciation here (on morning of registration!). It was really helpful & accurate so thought would try again now that we have a newborn boy. Preferred name is Rian, how would you pronounce:

1. Ree-un
2. Ryan
3. Ree-ahn
4. Ree-anne

Any others?

We may play around with spellings if there is ambiguity. Thanks again !

I’d assume it’s a girl and was Rhian spelled wrong, which I would pronounce ree-un.

I'd say 4 - Ree Ann but would assume your child was a girl.

1 with a very short second syllable. I'm Irish.

4 and I would also assume it was a girl .

I’d say 4 - I’m based in UK if that makes any difference.

I’d also think a misspelling or corrupted spelling of Rhian, and thus, that the child is a girl.

Ree-in. To rhyme with Ian as PP mentioned. Stress on the first syllable

Ree Ann, and unless I saw the child in question or knew they were male, I would assume a female child.

I would assume you couldn’t spell Rhian so would pronounce it ree-ann

Hi, we are in Kent - Indian heritage

It it was a girl I would assume Rye Anne.

For a boy maybe 1 (Ree-un) or 1 (unusual spelling of Ryan).

That was meant to say 2 (unusual spelling of Ryan)

I'd say Ree-un, emphasis on first syllable. I'm in Ireland. It's a boys' name.

I know a Rian and he pronounces it as Ryan

Most like 1 but not so much ‘u’ as ‘u’ in my northern accent is much more pronounced. I’d assume it was Kian with an R.

Before I read the actual post I thought Ree-Anne and would assume female. (Rhiann)

As you say it's for a boy I'd probably pronounce it Ree-un like Ian with an R.

It's a fairly popular boy's name in Ireland and number 3 would be the pronunciation where I am. Possibly 1 in different parts of the country.

In England it probably wouldn't be so well known though, and could be mixed up with similar girl's names. As you can see on this thread.
