So beautiful!

ArtichokeAardvark · 25/08/2021 15:27

I now have the disney song stuck in my head.

"It's no wonder that her name means beauty... her looks have got no parallellllllll... but behind that fair facade, I'm afraid she's rather odd..."

It's a lovely name but perhaps not fair to saddle a child with it!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 25/08/2021 15:29

As long as your surname isn't Clapper.

ShimmyYa · 25/08/2021 15:29

I like it, and will go against the grain by saying I think Belle or Bella as standalone names are far nicer, stronger and less boring/played out than Isabel/Annabel etc

Twinkie01 · 25/08/2021 15:30

Just got to hope you don't have an ugly kid!

peaceinourtime · 25/08/2021 15:58

It's ok and very popular at the moment as i'm sure you know. It like all shortings of names a/the longer form of the name doesn't necessary have to be used.

It you want it to be a pet/nickname of a name common shortings for a Belle that I have seen are Ella, Isabella/Isobel and of course Annabel.

EdgeOfACoin · 25/08/2021 16:02

It's pretty, but be careful if you live anywhere near London. The 'L' sound at the end may not be fully pronounced and you'll end up with a fairly mangled name (think of how everyone said Del's name in Only Fools & Horses).

If you're not in the south-east, this may not be an issue.

Milkbottlelegs · 25/08/2021 16:07

All I think of is belle-end. But I really like Isabel (any spelling) and Bella.

yourestandingonmyneck · 25/08/2021 16:21

Not keen.

It's a lot to live up to.

I'm also not that keen on Isabelle / Annabelle etc. I find them too flowery. I'm not a fan of these overly long, girly names.

Although I do prefer the shorter versions.
So in order of preference I would say Belle / Isabel / Isabelle / Isabella

LouNatics · 25/08/2021 16:34

My very first thought was Bellend. Probably says more about me than you though.

Definitely would not use if the surname was N or D (Belle N/Belle D). Too close.

I’d be ruling it out of any name or potential to become Belle Church, Belle Ringer, Belle Ball, Belle -bottom, Belle Pepper, Belle Bell, Belle Campbell, Belle Bellamy, Belle Belmont, and so on.

Perhaps, as a PP, a longer name to fall back on?

Happenchance · 25/08/2021 20:17

My first thought was also bellend.

If you do decide to give her a long name, Belinda is a less common choice.

Chunkymenrock · 25/08/2021 20:19

Ding dong! It's a no from me.

Janaih · 25/08/2021 20:23

We had a Spanish exchange student once called Bellene. Beautiful girl. Was probably baffled as to why she got a lot of sniggers here.

snoopy8 · 25/08/2021 20:24

Love it!

PricklesTheHedgehog · 25/08/2021 20:27

As DotDotDotDotDot said, what if she's plain?

Noshowwithoutpunch · 25/08/2021 20:29

Love it.
I'd put Annabelle on her birth certificate though.

nildesparandum · 25/08/2021 20:47

My grandmother was Isabella but always known as Bella. My grandfather called her Belle.

WhoppingBigBackside · 25/08/2021 21:02

Belle End

Treezan82 · 25/08/2021 21:13

Lovely. Also like Bella but a bit pet like.

Fl0w3ry · 26/08/2021 02:02

I think it's pretty, but I slightly prefer Bella.

ISpyCobraKai · 26/08/2021 02:06

Ridiculously twee.

LittleGwyneth · 26/08/2021 12:08

Give her a longer less Disney Princess legal name, so if she feels she wants to be taken seriously in a hard industry, she can use it. It's shit and sexist that she might have to, but it's sort of the world we live in.

Annabelle, Isabelle, Arabella etc.

Suspicioussam · 26/08/2021 12:18

Belle end here too. Also probably says more about me (and my friends) than you.

MrsBertBibby · 26/08/2021 12:24

Hate it. And Bella.

PlainJane1000 · 26/08/2021 20:37

Disney.
