Help to find a scandi girls name

Hoping for some inspiration for slightly more unusual girl names. DD2 due in autumn, currently living in Norway (DH is norwegian) but family in UK, so names need to kind of work in both norwegian and english.

I love longer more feminine sounding names, DD1 is Pernille (pronounced 'per-nil-leh').

Currently toying with:
Frida
Dahlia
Arianna
Linnea

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

I LOVE Linnea and know a small one here in the U.K. with Swedish ancestry, who has no trouble with people here spelling it or pronouncing it and everyone says it’s just so pretty. It goes really beautifully with Pernille, too.

Of your other names, I also like Arianna but am neutral on Frida. I’m not keen on Dahlia, sorry - I think over here it would sound comedy-posh (think Bertie Wooster’s Aunt Dahlia).

I also think Freya/Freyja is really overused in the U.K. - I know loads of little Freyas.

What about Astrid? Though tbh I like it a bit less than Linnea, which is still my fave.

Have you had a look at the National Statistics website? www.ssb.no/befolkning/navn/statistikk/navn

Similar style to Pernille, I would say:

Katherine
Susanne

Love them all. I have a Greta. Was almost an Astrid.

No regrets. I have a similar name and love it too.

100% Linnea. Still wish I’d had the guts to call my half Swedish daughter this, but a few people said “Was that Linear? Like a ruler??” and it put me off.🙄 Don’t be put off!!!

Emmelina · 24/08/2021 21:04

Astrid, Kari, Eva

Really like Frida (considered this for DD) and Linnea. Arianna is too frilly/girly for me though, and I don’t like the ‘ah’ sound of Dahlia.

DD is another Greta - we have no Scandi connections at all but I love Scandi names in general as they seem to strike the right balance of strong, stylish and international for us. Asta is another one that we shortlisted.

Ah yes and Maren was another we shortlisted (although I prefer the Marin spelling, which I don’t think is authentically Nordic).

I’m in Norway and my daughter is Tora. Not an overly common name here, but very Norwegian and has had lots of positivity.
I also love
Snøfrid
Synne
Astrid
Ida (eeda)

My best friend is half Norwegian, she is called Thea and her sister is Alba.

Sunnywithchanceofshowers · 24/08/2021 21:31

I grew up with a Norwegian mother. She hated the way the English pronounce my first name and the way Norwegians pronounce my middle name. The best thing to do is to make sure you like the way the name is pronounced in both countries.
