Hello all,

I love the name Anthea, what are your thoughts on using it?

The only one I’ve ever known is Anthea Turner - it’s a perfectly nice name but it just reminds me of her

Pollythecat15 · 23/08/2021 22:12

I like it.
I've only ever heard of one other Anthea (apart from Anthea Turner).
The one I knew at school will be in her 40s now.

I think it would be fine to use now though. I actually really like it.
She could have the nn options of Annie or Thea if she wanted.

PearlyBird · 23/08/2021 22:15

I like it!

HonoreDeBallsack · 23/08/2021 22:18

Anthea Turner.

No, no, no.

MumsMeaningfulMayhem · 23/08/2021 22:26

Immediately reminds me of the loathsome Anthea Turner.
Also, it is just a horrible name in its own right.

Lots of similar names are lovelier. Athena, Andrena, Andrea, etc.

BUT, it doesn't really matter what we think. If you like it enough, use it.

Fastforwardtospring · 23/08/2021 22:27

Beware of mispronunciation An-fee-a, I think it’s more of an adults name, as in, a child would grow into it, but it would grate on my nerves young children who have trouble with their ‘th’ sound, shouting An-fee-a across the playground. Maybe use Annie as the nickname whilst young!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 23/08/2021 22:47

For a certain generation the majority will think Turner and so it perhaps sounds a bit dowdy- but that's hardly likely to affect your child as her peers will have no idea. I personally much prefer the sound of 4 syllable Alethea or Welsh Aneira, sorry.

Chunkymenrock · 23/08/2021 22:49

Oh my goodness, a big fat no from me. Really awful name.

KirstenBlest · 24/08/2021 10:56

Athena is much nicer.

Staffroomdoughnut · 24/08/2021 11:05

First though was also Turner. Second thought was does this matter? How many people in your child’s generation are going to remember a TV presenter mainly from the 90s? I don’t think it’d bother me people associating the name and it shows how unusual it is - can’t think of another. It sounds nice.

The only Anthea I know bullied me out of a job and was a major fan of the cats bum face so it turns my stomach.

bassackwards · 24/08/2021 11:26

I like it. Reminds me of one my favourite tunes from The Who

changingstages · 24/08/2021 11:28

it does make me think of Anthea Turner... but it's nice name, and very unusual. Althea is great too.

LittleGwyneth · 24/08/2021 12:06

I like Athena and Adrina.

Amdone123 · 24/08/2021 12:10

I, too, thought of Anthea Turner, but it's actually a really lovely name. I don't know any so it's certainly not overused. I love Althea though. I don't like Athena - I know so many.

I went to school with an Anthea and wondered why it wasn't a more popular name. Since then Anthea Turner has put me off it, but if you're you g enough to be having a baby you've probably never heard of her.

Givemethatknife · 24/08/2021 14:25

It’s Ok, bit lispy.
