Help with my frist baby's name

These are some names top of my head:

Hamelia
Hamia
Hadalynn
Thalia
Which one is better? Some reasons I pick those name: first, I’m a Vietnamese originally and her Vietnamese name is Ha My (meaning a beautiful river) so I would love to give her a name that later on she can relate to her Vietnamese name, that’s why I pick some names starting with HA-, or even HAME- / HAMI- .
Second, my husband and I have tried for more than 5 years to have this baby so there comes Thalia name, meaning “blossoming”. And if we end up choosing this name, I think it will be Thalia for her first name and Ha-My for her middle name.

I think if she’s growing up in the Uk I would go with Thalia Ha-My. Congratulations on your pregnancy. Lovely to use a sentimental/meaningful name.

Candyapple49 · 02/08/2021 20:15

Please excuse my ignorance , but can’t you have Ha-My as her first name . Both the sound of the name and the meaning are beautiful .

LouNatics · 02/08/2021 20:19

It’s worth thinking about local accents in the UK - many of them will drop those Hs and she will be Amelia, or Adalynn. For those reasons I wouldn’t chose those.

Thalia is nice. But I think you should have your heritage in there. Thalia Ha-My has a lovely sound. Forgive me for playing with some of the sounds you like below.

Hermia, Hadiya, Hadley, Hadriya, Halle, Haliya
Mya, Myah, May, Amy, Amma, Maya, Myesha

PlainJane1000 · 02/08/2021 20:21

I really like Hamia and Thalia. I worry that Hamelia will get confused with the popular name Amelia and Hadalynn seems too far from Ha-My to keep the connection that you want.
Congrats and good luck Smile

I used to think about it but isnt first name only in 1 word? I'm afraid some not so nice kids at school will call her as "Ham-my"(adjective of "ham") which I would rather avoid that situation to happen with my little girl later on.

Thalia is a gorgeous name

FadoFado · 02/08/2021 20:48

Congratulations! 5 years is a long time.

I think Thalia Ha-My is gorgeous. I agree with you that some of the names starting Ham- might result in a ham related nickname!

Thalia really is lovely.

Ruby103 · 02/08/2021 20:48

To all others: Yeah I didn't think about people will drop the H sound in UK/US accents. I also love Thalia but on the other hand still want to play around if I can integrate the "Ha My" name into some English names. Thanks a lot for all of your advice ans recommendations :)

Could you give a first name starting Ha and then a middle name starting My?

E.g.
Hannah Mya
Harriet Myleene

Can't think of any more of the top of my head but there must be some!

Ruby103 · 02/08/2021 21:06

@namechange30455: it is also another great idea to think about. Star

Thalia Ha-My is lovely.
My second choice would be Hamia because it is different enough from any British names to sound like a new name.
Hamelia is too similar to Amelia for me and Hadalynn too like Madeleine.

Hamida and Hama are both actual names but obviously from a different cultural origin.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 02/08/2021 22:26

Thalia Ha My is beautiful. I'm not keen on your other choices, sorry - I think they look "invented" so neither English or Vietnamese and yes I think with the first two she could get called "Hammy" as a nn.

Enko · 02/08/2021 22:32

I quite like Hamia . Thalia is lovely yes..

Synchrony · 02/08/2021 23:04

I'd just use Ha-My. Since the last syllable reads as "My", not "Me" , I didn't think of Hammy at all. It's not unusual to me to hear Asian names like this, with a hyphen.

I agree with previous posters that Hamelia is too close to Amelia.

SadWife2020 · 02/08/2021 23:21

I was thinking along the lines of @namechange30455

Hazel Myrtle
Hayley Myranda
Harper Myah
Hattie Myka
Halle (like Halle Berry) Myra

I think Harriet, Hannah and Hazel are the best Ha- names

Overall I like I think Myrtle is the best of the My- names, followed by Mya. Myrtle is a flower which means love in the language of flowers Daffodil

I like Hazel Myrtle for a beautiful nature name DaffodilDaffodil

MrsPsmalls · 02/08/2021 23:43

Thalia Ha-My is amazing - definitely use that!

Ruby103 · 03/08/2021 02:13

@Synchrony: Actually "My" pronouce as "Me" in Vietnamese so that is why I concerned about the nickname "Ham-my"

Aquamarine1029 · 03/08/2021 02:37

I would avoid any name that begins with Ham.

Urghhhhh · 03/08/2021 09:39

Another vote for Thalia.

FeedMeSantiago · 03/08/2021 11:39

Thalia Ha-Me is gorgeous and I love the meaning.

FeedMeSantiago · 03/08/2021 11:41

Ha-My even, bloody autocorrect!

Ruby103 · 03/08/2021 12:20

Thanks everyone for all of the great recommendations. I think I will set for Thalia Ha My for now. StarStarStar

I like Thalia so agree with previous, what about Thalia Ha My, or Ha My Thalia. If you want to merge, what about Hamylia?

Fran45528 · 03/08/2021 17:02

Thalia is a beautiful name. I would stick with Thalia for her first name for the reasons mentioned above.
