These are some names top of my head:

Hamelia
Hamia
Hadalynn
Thalia
Which one is better? Some reasons I pick those name: first, I’m a Vietnamese originally and her Vietnamese name is Ha My (meaning a beautiful river) so I would love to give her a name that later on she can relate to her Vietnamese name, that’s why I pick some names starting with HA-, or even HAME- / HAMI- .
Second, my husband and I have tried for more than 5 years to have this baby so there comes Thalia name, meaning “blossoming”. And if we end up choosing this name, I think it will be Thalia for her first name and Ha-My for her middle name.

I love Thalia! I had it on my list but I’m having a boy

woodfort · 03/08/2021 19:58

I would call her Ha-My.

Ruby103 · 03/08/2021 20:43

@woodfort: her first name will be Thalia and Ha-My will be her middle name. I just worry that of I name her as Ha-My, other kids may give her a "ham" nickname.

Just a suggestion

Hermione?

Hope you find something you love. Smile

I would definitely spell it the traditional classic way, Thalia. The other spellings look incorrect even if they are genuine alternatives.

Id say Thalia for pronunciation, but Ha-My is such a lovely middle name too. If
Congratulations! X

Thalia Ha-My is lovely. Another idea - Hermia? It's Shakespearean from Midsummer Night's Dream . A good character - one of the 4 star crossed lovers. Maybe the "Her" sound is not right - you are looking for a more "hah" pronunciation?

Valentina

Valentina or Wednesday?

Sorry, wrong thread!

Hermione

For what it's worth, if it was me, I would use Ha-My.

VanillaSpiceCandle · 04/08/2021 10:22

I’d just use the Vietnamese name as her first name. She might need to tell people how it’s pronounced once but people learn and will be fine. I’m using an English first name and Asian middle name but only because my Asian husband has an English first name. It’s also two words as standard. There’s a lot of names which have parts which sound like English words but I’m just looking for the meaning. It would cut out too many nice names otherwise!

Thalia is great. You're right about My, it'll be mispronounced all the time in English. And the Hammy issue will get kids calling her Hammy the Hamster.

I'm English living in France and I wouldn't use an English name I know would get mispronounced. I have a Vietnamese friend with a My Linh and a Xuan Mi. People struggle with Xuan Mi and my friend regrets using the name. Her youngest is Kim Smile.
