It's fine, although id assume you were big boxing fans!

Candydreamer · 02/08/2021 09:03

@Cbeebiesrehab

Yes please don’t name him the same name as dad. It’s very confusing and you’ll have a Big John and Little John set up, post, doctors appointments. All a bit of a nightmare.
yeah I'm really not into the whole xyz senior, xyz junior thing!

I knew we would find it hard with boys names, I knew my husband would be quite picky. which is good of course as the child has to live with their name but it's been hard too. he has rejected every name I've offered and the only one he has put forward I thought was made up - Alvie.

Lennox is way way better than Alvie! (And Gareth Grin which just screams 1970s to me, does your Mum have a crush on Mr Southgate by any chance??)

I'm Scottish so to me it's a dignified and ancient surname, but see absolutely no reason it can't be used like many other surnames as a first name now. It certainly wouldn't raise eyebrows round here, I've met kids with first names Cameron, MacKenzie, lots of various clan names all used as first names.

percheron67 · 02/08/2021 09:15

It is a surname. As is Brodie.

MaMelon · 02/08/2021 09:38

It is a surname that has been used for many years in Scotland as a first name - as has Brodie, Cameron, Stuart and many others.

Candydreamer · 02/08/2021 12:21

hahah she may well have a soft spot for him!

yeah, I know a lot of children who have first names that I also know of people with that surname, such as Harrison, Gray, Archer, Carter etc..

I Instantly I think of Fools & Horses, Lennox Gilbert, the Shadd-a-Dow!

PattyPan · 03/08/2021 10:09

I definitely would. I agree Lennox sounds rough and Lenny makes me think of the character from Of Mice and Men, pretty awful.

babbi · 03/08/2021 10:13

I love Lennox but as previous poster said it’s not uncommon here in Scotland so I’m used to hearing it .
Congratulations on your pregnancy

Candydreamer · 03/08/2021 12:06

Thanks! Hopefully husband comes round to it..

That was my first thought too!
VanillaAndOrange · 09/08/2021 15:05

I kind of like it. I've never met one but I wouldn't instinctively say it would automatically be shortened to Lenny - I knew a boy called Lennon who was never Lenny.

CoalCraft · 09/08/2021 19:39

Hmm, makes me think of Annie Lennox.

I would assume Lenny was short for Leonard, and also be reminded of "Of Mice and Men"

Not to my taste personally!

35andThriving · 09/08/2021 21:27

I like it. First heard it on Only Fools and Horses, with Lennox Gilbey, as others have said. I think it sounds really nice though.
