I think most names ending in ‘ie’ sound are going to sound cutesy/twee.

It’s a nice name - The very opposite of ‘downmarket’ Shock

I know a lovely one too, I like it.

Love it, always have. Think it's cute on a child and cool on an adult.

RestingStitchFace · 03/08/2021 15:37

I think it's lovely. Go for it!

I like it but that's probably because it was my mothers name :)

@BertieBotts

I love it.

Also seeing hidey and high-dee as the same. Is it about the stress? HI-dee vs hi-DEE? I'd put the stress on the first syllable.

Bear in mind it's originally short for Adelheid, which is pronounced ah-del-hide with the stress on the Ah. But it can be a name in its own right these days.

She definitely does pronounce it differently and is constantly having to correct people....But im realising now it is probably to do with accent. She is Scottish.

Most people pronounce her daughters name like the verb to "hide" and then ee.

She says it is the sound like hi / high and then Dee.

I'm saying the above sounds in her accent in my head and they are two distinct sounds (the first part of "hide" vs hi/high) but she is Scottish. I'm realising that in an English accent these two sounds are probably the same.

I think in in an english accent it would be high-Dee, the way she says it. So it sounds like she just prefers the English prononciarion, as opposed to the the Scottish which would be a much shorter, sharper first syllable.
