We were curious to know what nicknames anyone had for the name Evie, yes I already know this is a short name that doesn't need to be any shorter but still interested to know :)

Evelyn > Evie > Eve > Pombear 🤷‍♀️

Bryonyshcmyony · 24/07/2021 09:20

Evie is a nickname for Eve

Dds friend is actually called Eve but is called Evie by most people.

And real nicknames mean something, e.g. DM and MIL have different nicknames for the DC that reflect their different languages.

JaninaDuszejko · 24/07/2021 09:24

Well your definitely defiant Confused

Bryonyshcmyony · 24/07/2021 09:26

Maybe ask the 3 billion Evies at your local school what they get called? Probably Evie H, Evie B, Evie S

YouMadeABear · 24/07/2021 09:30

I'm assuming your name is Karen

Why would you assume PP's name is Karen? Could you elaborate on that please? Why Karen?

HarveySpectorWins · 24/07/2021 09:33

I was just going to say my niece gets called Evie-Pops most of the time or Eves but I'm not sure you'll actually be grateful of actual suggestions now GrinBlush

Skybluepinkgiraffe · 24/07/2021 09:34

The other, better forums will suggest E, or Vie, pronounced Vee, I expect.
This is a discussion forum and most posters have been politely discussing.

I had in my head that my youngest would have a certain nickname related to her name but as a toddler she looked so like Boo from monsters inc that it just stuck. Now as as older teen she’s still Boo

Imagine Evie will get shortened to Eve in the same way a Mollie gets shortened to Moll and Kelly to Kels

kowari · 24/07/2021 10:21

Evie is the nickname, for Eve, Eva, Evelyn, Evangeline, Genevieve..

I don't understand this need to decide upon a nn for your own child. As pps have said, surely a nn is something that develops organically? If you feel a need to choose one then , IMO, tou are either not happy with the name you are putting on the birth certificate, in which case just use the nn as the official name, or you are very controlling and will want to control every single aspect of your child's life, in which case be prepared to read about yourself on the Stately Homes threw in about 25 years time.

Yes, OP, you are 'defiantly' in the wrong group if you can't handle opinions.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 24/07/2021 10:46

I don't get the whole nicknames thing. DH and I both have names which get shortened to other names (think Susan/Susie and David/Dave) and hate it. We deliberately chose short names for our dc that couldn't be shortened further. One of our dc has a nickname his friends have given him as its his favourite foodstuff and he eats it all the time but that's only in recent years, not in his childhood.

Similarly with middle names. Our dc don't have them. Dh and I have never used ours and so didn't see the point of giving them to the children.

CarnationCat · 24/07/2021 10:52

Eve
Vivi
E
Evvy

I'm not sure what else.

Interesting.

I have a non shortening first name and I hate it. That's why dd gas a long name that can be shortened multiple ways.

I didnt have a middle name. That's why dd has three christian names. I gave myself a middle name for my 50th birthday.

CandyLeBonBon · 24/07/2021 11:13

Oh dear. Confused

JaninaDuszejko · 24/07/2021 13:34

I think the trouble is when people use nicknames without considering what the owner of the name likes and then get offended if you say 'no, my name is X'. The English are particularly terrible for this, the number of people who hardly know you who decide to shorten your name and then claim you are being uptight for wanting to be known as X. I think nicknames are for family and friends only and there's a history to them. So e.g. DBro has his birth certificate name that anyone who met him as an adult knows, his family nickname that is a common shortening of his name (despite DM saying she never wanted it shortened!) and the name his old school friends call him that has a long and convoluted history.
