Induction tmrw and we have gone off our main girls name. I've always liked Emma, mainly bc dearest oldest friend is an Emma and she's lovely.

Immediate thoughts? Done or due a revival?

We have a Thomas and Tessa, both known by their short versions.

Love it. But one of my oldest and dearest friends is called Emma and so I wouldn't use it because I already have an Emma in my life.

DeadButDelicious · 17/07/2021 21:17

I'm an Emma. When I was little in the 80's/90's I was one of many, many, many Emma's but now you don't hear it so often.

I only know one baby Emma and she's a lovely child. I used to think it was a boring name but now I quite like it.

AnnaSW1 · 17/07/2021 22:26

@35andThriving same here!

resm · 17/07/2021 22:30

I really like Emma and would be all over it if someone I knew used that name recently, not one you really hear anymore in my experience. I much prefer it to the thousand and one Ellas & Emilys.

TheWashingMachine · 17/07/2021 22:32

I love it, always makes me think of Madame Bovary one of my favourite novels. If I had another daughter it would probably be my top choice.

Passthesauce · 17/07/2021 22:45

It's a beautiful, classic name.
And so much less prevalent now.
DD1 would have been Emma but it really, really did not go with DH's surname.

She likes the sound of it and said we should have used my surname instead of DH'S Grin

Carrotca · 17/07/2021 22:55

boring

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 17/07/2021 23:34

Emma is very classic - it's just like many names it has rises and falls in popularity (it's currently fairly popular but as a traditional name it's unlikely to especially date her). Jane Austen's eponymous heroine is a fun namesake and it's a nice, easy to say and spell name imo.

Youvegotafriendinme · 17/07/2021 23:42

I think it’s a lovely name but have to agree with pp, never met a nice one and that includes my sister

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 17/07/2021 23:42

It's on my top 3 list of girls names

FriedasCarLoad · 17/07/2021 23:57

Beautiful name.

Being 40, I have known many, many Emmas. None of them horrible, most of them lovely, and that makes me like the name even more!

KirstenBlest · 18/07/2021 12:05

Lovely

AnnaSW1- I was horrid at the time but I am glad I got to see their true colours really. I hope that the same is true for you. Flowers
