Which one and why? Also should Cassie or Cassandra be on the bc?

Agreed @GreyhoundG1rl - I don't think it matters at all, there are lots of names in popular use that are also flower/plant/herb names. It just seems a shame to denigrate a name just for that reason (rather than just saying you don't like it, which is absolutely fair enough!). I don't know anyone named Cassia personally, so have no "skin in the game" as it were - but I would hate anyone reading the thread to be put off a name because of one post, so wanted to explain the Cassia has other well known associations too!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 16/07/2021 21:15

Or were you talking about the dogs name thing? Most dogs around me seem to have popular kids names too - Alfie, Archie, Max, Tilly, Belle, etc. I do know one dog Cassie and one Molly but it wouldn't put me off for that reason.

GreyhoundG1rl · 16/07/2021 21:22

No, the cinnamon thing 😂. No idea what the "but it means cinnamon!" shite was about. It's not the worst thing imaginable.

TatianaBis · 16/07/2021 21:24

Nothing is obvious in language. Etymologies are often ingenious rather than correct (see POSH) Plus Boris is an imbecile.

Cassia or Cassiana could potentially be feminine of Cassius, it wouldn’t be incorrect. I’m just saying I’ve never seen an instance of it in Latin texts.

Generally Cassia in Latin corresponds to cinnamon.

adrianmolesmole · 16/07/2021 21:26

Molly or Daisy! Cassie is too common and ordinary.

Enko · 16/07/2021 22:42

Cassie (or Casia) as I really like that name. Cassanda on the birth certiicate.

Chilldonaldchill · 18/07/2021 17:56

I don't like Molly - no good reason; it just sounds meh to me.
I do like Daisy. I know people say it's twee but I don't see that - I think it's a strong name.
I do love Cassie though as a nickname for Cassia (I know a few Cassias but I don't think it's very common). I don't like Cassandra personally.

Tuesday588 · 19/07/2021 10:11

I like Molly and Cassie, not keen on Daisy. I actually like Cassie as a nn for Cassidy but I know it's not a popular option

SometimesRavenSometimesParrot · 19/07/2021 10:22

Cassie, with a longer name on BC.
Molly reminds me of an attentive dog and Daisy is a cow imo. I have very strong name associations 😂

mafted · 19/07/2021 10:30

I love Molly.
Cassie is also lovely but I'm not sure about Cassandra or Cassia.
Daisy is cute but I can't imagine being called Daisy as I am now or back when I was a grungy teenager.

Buttons294749 · 19/07/2021 10:44

I know a lot of Cassandra/cassie names my age but hardly any young ones so would go for that

MilkEyedMender · 19/07/2021 11:01

I love them all but I'd go for Cassie!

CaffiSaliMali · 19/07/2021 11:46

Cassie
Molly
Daisy

In that order. I think Cassie works well on it's own or as as a nickname with Cassia or Cassandra on the BC.

You could also have Daisy with Margaret or Marguerite on the BC.

Savingtheworldb4bedtime · 19/07/2021 12:01

I'm bias I have a Cassie, thats on her birth certificate. She's never met another one, she's 6. We were going to go for casandra but we knew we'd call her cassie anyway. Not that it makes much difference and most of her school friends shorten it to Cas anyway. All lovely names though.

NannyR · 19/07/2021 12:09

Cassie - the others are a bit cutesy and don't transfer well into adulthood. I love cassandra (although only fools and horses springs to mind when I hear it!) and Cass would also be a good shortening.

Grasshopper90 · 19/07/2021 14:21

I love Cassandra, with Cassie for short. Molly and Daisy a bit meh in comparison imo.

MadeOfStarStuff · 19/07/2021 20:48

Cassie short for Cassandra

It’s more unusual and I think it’s prettier

kiwimum86 · 20/07/2021 00:54

I'm Cassandra nn Cass or Cassie. Growing up I was always Cassie and people tend to just shorten names anyway. Now I introduce myself as Cass but people still say Cassie too. I used to dislike my name but now I really like that it has options.

In saying that. I love Molly!

notangelinajolie · 20/07/2021 03:47

Cassandra nn Cassie

Theoldwoman · 20/07/2021 04:14

It would all depend on surname, siblings names and middle name,

Molly and Daisy are too babyish for me for a teen/grown woman. I prefer Milly (full name Amelia) or Cassie (def Cassandra)

Xanadu7 · 20/07/2021 05:15

Cassia!
My daughter is called Cassia so I may be biased. 😁

Kanaloa · 20/07/2021 06:47

They’re all nice. Molly and Daisy are a bit more popular in my experience, so if you wanted something more unusual I would say go with Cassie/Cassandra. I can’t help myself pronouncing Cassandra like Rodney does though! My personal favourite is probably Daisy.

Kanaloa · 20/07/2021 06:48

I also think Daisy and Molly will transfer fine into adulthood given that they’re so popular. In the future they won’t be unusual names for an adult at all.
