I really like it but don’t think I’d use it as it’s quite distinctively Scandi and not quite as cross-cultural as some other choices.

Stellan? Torin? Both have a similar vibe IMO but slightly more mainstream.

Lsquiggles · 07/07/2021 14:31

Just makes me think of Soreen malt loaf bars, sorry Blush

thecognoscenti · 07/07/2021 14:31

I have friends with a son called Soren. No Danish/Scandi connection, they just like it. A bit odd at first but now it's just his name.

Sunny4876 · 07/07/2021 14:32

Automatically think of Soren Lorenson but not a bad thing.
I like it.

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 07/07/2021 14:33

I actually really like it. First heard it during Olympics fencing Soren Thompson.

custardbear · 07/07/2021 14:33

I like it. I think it's pronounced Surn though rather than Soren Lawrencen on Charlie and Lola if that affects your decision.

Blossomtoes · 07/07/2021 14:35

@GammyLeg

Malt loaf
My first thought too.
emmathedilemma · 07/07/2021 14:37

I assumed it was a girl's name too (but then I'd pronounce it to rhyme with Lauren) and it screams malt loaf to me.

Haudyourwheesht · 07/07/2021 14:39

I like it but I'm Scottish and suspect it's maybe more common here? I like it for DD had she been a boy.

AquaticLicence · 07/07/2021 14:39

My husband's Danish and I really like the nane Søren but wouldn't inflict a child born and living in the UK with a name containing æ, å or ø. Swapping an ø for an o is no different to swapping an o for an i or similar to a Dane, i.e. makes it a completely different word.

Haudyourwheesht · 07/07/2021 14:40

The ones I've known have rhymed with Lauren.

Chilldonaldchill · 07/07/2021 14:58

I quite like it. There was one in my baby group 19 years ago. I do prefer both Torin and Corin though.
Soren Charles
Soren Thomas
Soren William
Soren Theodore
Soren Alexander

mum2jakie · 07/07/2021 17:48

Lovely - knew a really nice Danish lad with that name

Bovrilly · 07/07/2021 18:01

I would expect it to be Søren but I do like it, especially if you have Scandinavian links

Chickpea22 · 07/07/2021 18:08

I love it. But our son has quite an unusual scandi name.

Chickpea22 · 07/07/2021 18:09

We aren’t Scandinavian and have no connections if that helps.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 07/07/2021 18:15

Soren is a lovely name imo (although it may sometimes be mispronounced in the UK if that matters- as "sore -un or "soh- ren" rather than the more correct "sur-ren")- but unless you are Scandi/have a Scandi surname I'd use something more popular and classic/traditional "English" for his middle name - Thomas, James, Edward, Alexander, Charles etc type names would sound good imo.

NerrSnerr · 07/07/2021 18:16

I also thought Soren Lorenson but that's not a bad association.

Enko · 07/07/2021 23:09

I see Soren and I think Søren spelt wrong and said wrong.

Having said that Søren is a wonderful name and I have never met a Søren who is not a great human being. (my dd 3 has the feminine Søren for her mn) but I really do not like it spelled Soren

HoratioNightboy · 08/07/2021 23:58

Definitely getting popular in Scotland. I know three little ones in our small town, all pronounced "Sorren". Sounds really good with a Scottish accent I think.

MegaCityOne · 09/07/2021 01:33

Malt loaf.

DramaAlpaca · 09/07/2021 01:36

It's a very nice Scandinavian name.

I don't see the association with the malt loaf at all, it's spelled differently and sounds very different.

GreyhoundG1rl · 09/07/2021 01:37

I like it.

veryblearyeyed · 09/07/2021 01:49

I love it but would go with the ø. Nobody makes a fuss about Zoës (or maybe they do??)

My first thought was Søren Alexander, and two other posters have also suggested that, so I think it’s a winner.

Vallmo47 · 09/07/2021 01:52

I’m Swedish and I think it’s cruel to name a kid in Sweden this, sorry.
I’m forever spelling my surname, you will constantly be reminding people how to pronounce, spell it and discuss origin. Do you think your child, supposedly born and raised in U.K., will enjoy that?
I have a cousin called Åsa - same thing, wowwww the amount of hassle and questioning. I wanted to name my daughter Linnea for reference but didn’t because people kept “tasting” the name here, asking loads of questions and even saying “linear, like a ruler?” 😢
Horrible when that happens to your favourite name and people find it comical.
