Decided on the name Louie for our little boy due in a few weeks.
Any suggestions for a middle name?
Not john or James
Thanks

I know a Louis Rocco and think that sounds really good.

Happenchance · 03/07/2021 21:56

Louie Arnold
Louie Frank (a nod to Francis)
Louie Morgan

Louis!

Anything really as long as it flows well and doesn't sound or end (ee sound), like "Louis". Both names must go with your surname and initials not be an acronym for anything controversial.

Do look at the meanings of names too.

I like Drumandthebass and Happenchance's suggestions very much.

Congratulations and good luck.

My 3 month old baby son is Louis Alexander. I do prefer the traditional French spelling although a few people have pronounced his name 'Lewis' which has irritated me so I get where you're coming from but I don't regret the spelling. I completely respect that you want to spell it 'Louie' though. I think there have been lots of good suggestions on here and lots of names go nicely with Louie. I suppose it depends on if you like something more traditional or something more modern?

Louie George
Louie Arthur
Louie Theodore (I was very tempted to have this as another middle name but partner wasn't keen on 2 middle names)
Louie William
Louie Ryan
Louie Christopher
Louie Edward
Louie James

As a few others have said I'd avoid names ending in an 'ie' sound or starting with 'L'.

Louis Alexander is lovely.

Lewis is generally a surname. I know someone whose surname is/was Lewis and she named her son that in honour of her family which seems fair enough.

HollowTalk · 04/07/2021 03:39

Louis Matthew

I’d assume Louie was a girl and I was about to come up with girl’s names.

Violetlavenders · 05/07/2021 14:55

Louie is most definitely a boys name! Look at the number of boys being named Louie (lots) vs girls (none?).

The Louie spelling has actually become more popular than the French spelling (Louis).

Maggiesfarm · 05/07/2021 15:01

@HollowTalk

Louis Matthew
That's nice, as long as surname initial isn't P ;).

Spelling it 'Louie' is a fashion thing, I think it's not a good idea to go for that really but it's up to op.

Until recently Louie was a diminutive for Louise.

Louie is only popular among the demographic who need to spell it phonetically.

LepersofRuggedIsland · 05/07/2021 17:46

“Until recently Louie was a diminutive for Louise.”

This is very true, I knew an elderly lady called Louie. Louis would be the more traditional spelling but I honestly don’t think it matters if you love the name you’ve picked.

TryingAndFailing39 · 06/07/2021 19:03

This is certainly my experience as a teacher. I’ve taught a few boys called Louis/Louie and you can tell the difference in their family demographic (and I’m honestly not being judgmental saying that, it is genuinely what I’ve observed).

Lalliella · 07/07/2021 00:41

Please spell it Louis. Otherwise it’s like Hughie Dewie and Louie.

SkiingIsHeaven · 07/07/2021 00:42

James

Viviennemary · 11/07/2021 09:17

The spelling is incorrect.

Viewed this post looking for some inspiration for a middle name for our own little boy.

I don’t regularly comment but felt the need as I am absolutely astounded at the amount of people who think it is acceptable to effectively troll the OP (a pregnant or recent mum) with how they should or shouldn’t spell their child’s name.

Both diminutives are accepted variants for a beautiful name. That is the only fact! People’s opinions on whether they would spell it “Louie” were not asked. Frankly some of the comments here re “demographic” or “it being awful” are extremely unkind and borderline bullying.

Nobody is “trolling” Confused

People are pointing out that spelling a child’s name incorrectly will have potential negative connotations for the child! I don’t think that’s unreasonable.

SP2014 · 31/08/2021 10:24

I myself have a name spelt differently and I do agree it is difficult to highlight that to every call centre operator. However….

“Louie and Louis” are both accepted spellings of the same name, in the same way that “Stephen or Steven” are or “Lindsey and Lyndsey” etc.

The name is therefore not spelt “incorrectly” and whilst some comments just highlight it isn’t the most traditional spelling, some are incredibly unkind, and that is trolling.
