We already have two sons called Samuel and Edward. Middle name likely to be Alexandra.

So far we have
Emma
Harriet
Sophie
Hannah
Anna
Holly

I know they have all been popular for decades but DH and I have never agreed on 'unique' names so we figure we best stick to more classic type names that do not seem to be as popular as they once were 10-20 years ago (although happy to be corrected).

My favourites are Hannah and Emma but I don’t think they work with Alexandra. I think Sophie works best with that middle name.

I don’t like Harriet. The others are quite pretty sounding but Harriet sounds harsh. Plus it’s got associations as a name for me, middle class and snobby, I think people make assumptions about a Harriet in the same way as Julian or Miles!

Love them all apart from Harriet.
Holly is my fave. Sophie is probably a little bit to popular.

TatianaBis · 19/06/2021 11:04

Alexandra is nicer than all of them.

petitdonkey · 19/06/2021 11:11

I love Emma- I’m a teacher and have only ever taught one! I’m currently in a large independent prep school and we have at least one of all your other names but no Emma- uncommon rather than unusual. Lovely.

Pedalpushers · 19/06/2021 14:19

Sophie, Emma and Holly are all lovely. I utterly hate the name Harriet.

Chilldonaldchill · 19/06/2021 14:26

Emma - ok, feels as though it's almost a mix of Samuel and Edward. A little clunky with Alexandra
Harriet - gorgeous. Absolutely my favourite. Harriet Alexandra is perfect
Sophie - nice name but I don't like the matching initial
Hannah - I find this a bit dull
Anna - my second favourite
Holly - a bit dull

I would go for Harriet by a long way but Anna is a very safe second option

DotDotDotDotDot · 19/06/2021 16:28

Harriet with nickname Hattie is cute. Agree with pp Anna is a nice but safe choice.

LilacSloth · 19/06/2021 16:58

Holly

These lovely timeless names were all extra popular about 30 years ago along with Chloe, Charlotte ,Olivia , and Emily . Just in case you needed more to add to your list!

Posieandpip · 19/06/2021 18:55

Harriet! Others are a little (very) beige.

MsMarple · 19/06/2021 18:59

They are all nice, but I think Holly goes least well with your boys names.

Alexandra would be lovely as a first name too!

Kanaloa · 19/06/2021 19:28

All really nice. I like Harriet the best.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 19/06/2021 22:22

Anna is gorgeous - very classic as you said OP and very international, but not too overused in the UK yet imo.

Your other choices are very nice too but a bit more popular (especially Sophie, with all the Sophia/Sofia's about too - but Sophie does sound the best with the middle Alexandra to me!).

The slightly odd one out to me is Holly, I'm less keen on it as it doesn't feel as classic to me as your other choices - and so doesn't fit as well with Samuel and Edward imo.

Zandathepanda · 19/06/2021 22:39

I prefer different first initials for siblings but Emma is nice.
Just be careful with a vowel in the middle that the initials don’t spell out anything now or later in life. I do know someone who’s initials were FAT which was unfortunate in school as she was not thin.

ILoveShula · 20/06/2021 14:21

Emma - love it
Harriet - nice enough
Sophie - love it
Hannah - nice enough but I prefer Anna
Anna - like it a lot
Holly - nice but a bit christmassy
