My best friend wants to call her baby boy Tyga (after an American rapper apparantly). Never heard of him but I just hate the name...
Tbh I think it sounds really chavy.
I'm really surprised as my friend herself isn't chavy lol, she's from a very middle class background and has a professional career.
She asked me for my honest opinion of it so I just told her I really don't like it. I'm more into traditional "solid" names like James, Daniel, Stephen etc. Tyga just sounds "made up" and well, tbh, rubbish.
What do others think of this name?

OP posts:

It’s shit.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 17/06/2021 20:41

Pants

tilder · 17/06/2021 20:42

Hmm. So it's not your choice of name, but your friends? And you're on here canvassing for an opinion? Having been derogatory about it?

Not on.

StopGo · 17/06/2021 20:43

The child of Ben Dover and Linzi Drew

toffeebutterpopcorn · 17/06/2021 20:43

Not a good idea to name your child after a ‘current’ pop star or actor/celeb anyway! And Tyga (pronounced Tiger?) sounds a bit naff. I’m sure - like Tiger Woods - it’s not what their mum calls them anyway (Michael and Eldrick...)

LadyCatStark · 17/06/2021 20:44

Either chav or hippy.

LouNatics · 17/06/2021 20:46

Stripy.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 17/06/2021 20:46

oh i assumed to rhyme with tigger.
tiger, it is so so, not really dreadful
but to name after a rap star, hmm,

Veterinari · 17/06/2021 20:47

The name of Amanda's shop store in Motherland

percheron67 · 17/06/2021 20:47

Rough.

MsFogi · 17/06/2021 20:47

Nightmare parents, nightmare kid.

BabyFartsDoStink · 17/06/2021 20:48

Naming after a distinct famous person is fraught. What if he becomes a criminal? Imagine naming your kid Savile..

chaosrabbitland · 17/06/2021 20:49

no

SleepingStandingUp · 17/06/2021 20:50

Well it's one of those.
Would I? No.
W/C Mom calling Tyga in Lidl? People will think it's chavvy and made up.
M/C Mom calling Tyga in Waitrose? Much more likely to get away with it being interesting.
U/C Mom calling Tyga across the stables? Quirky and fun!

Tobermorie · 17/06/2021 20:50

Chavvy and I would avoid the family tbh.

Wowzel · 17/06/2021 20:52

It's pretty awful.

DoubleTweenQueen · 17/06/2021 20:52

Jake from ‘Outnumbered' was played by Tyger Drew-Honey. It suits him.

I wouldn’t judge the parents by the name as much as I would judge the parents for naming their child after an American rapper :/

I mean Tyga is known for messaging underage girls so they're on the right (wrong) road already there!

OP, tell your friend to have a bit of class.

Longdistance · 17/06/2021 20:53

It’s crappe.

PlanetTeaTime · 17/06/2021 20:53

I like it to be honest

NotNowPlzz · 17/06/2021 20:59

Call him Alexander Tyga or Samuel Tyga or something and just call him Tyga. Tyga as a first name is just too much and I'm pretty out there.

koalaroobear · 17/06/2021 21:00

I immediately thought chavvy parents

Or future pimp

Ninkanink · 17/06/2021 21:01

Uh,

It would not leave me with a good impression. At all.

This is a good idea
