Basically posh names that aren't very common. I can't think of what the girls names equivalents would be. Ideas?

@Awwlookatmybabyspider

Antigone. Florianna. Florabelle. Valentina. Trixibelle. Therese. Martiana. Penelope. Arabella. Octavia. Calliope. Fabienne. Henrietta. Elizabetta. Josephina. Thomasina. Dorothea. Evangeline. Miriam.
Florabelle and Trixiebelle are not posh, they are stripper names. As is Sistine above. Not quite sure what to make of Sheila 🤣 be careful Op! You might want to stick with Elizabeth or Jane

The poshest girls I know are called Squeak, Pip (not short for Philippa, in fact have no idea what her real name is) and Cricket, so if it’s posh you’re going for I’d point you there-wards.

Lady Irene Mountbatten would have your guts for garters en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irene_Mountbatten,_Marchioness_of_Carisbrooke As would Lady Sheila Mary Holroyd www.npg.org.uk/collections/search/person/mp131225/lady-sheila-mary-holroyd-nee-cairns Yes I have been Googling! I'll give you Darcy though.

KaptainKaveman · 16/06/2021 11:34

Hilarious thread! like reading one of my Evelyn Waugh novels Grin

KaptainKaveman · 16/06/2021 11:38

Dominic Lawson named his daughters Nigella, Horatia and Thomasina didn't he? so presumably any male name can be feminised by altering the ending.

  • Casparina
  • Jamesina
  • Cuthbertina
  • Cedricina
  • Jasparina
  • Conradina
  • Jeremina
  • Maxmillianna

etc etc

Depends how you spell Vivien
KaptainKaveman · 16/06/2021 11:42

Or perhaps go for some of the lesser known Shakespearian names?
Volumnia is a personal fave.

Bryonyshcmyony · 16/06/2021 11:44

Some of these are pretentious rather than posh.

Posh girls names are irrelevant because they'll have a nickname all their lives anyway

pigglepot · 16/06/2021 11:54

Some great suggestions here! It does seem like there are a lack of female equivalents of those sort of posh names that also aren't quite Jilly Cooper territory like someone said 😂.

Honor is basically my all time favourite but DH vetoed it without telling me why. Turns out he vetoed it because when combined with our surname it can have an obscene meaning that she would get bullied for! Gutted!! Someone else mentioned Kitty which is currently my top fave apart from Honor and we already have a Violet and a cat Pandora. Some of the others - Arabella, Lucinda etc are just a bit too frilly and over the top for me!

All of my children's names are in this thread !
I didn't realise I was so posh Grin

pigglepot · 16/06/2021 12:37

@GreyhoundG1rl well I suppose you would have to know me to know my daughters name and my cats name and to take a guess at the surname with Honor issue but if you do know me then it would be quite obvious I think! Ah well!

It really doesn't.

TatianaBis · 16/06/2021 18:36

@StyleAndLasers

Irene was born in 1890, Sheila was born in 1905.

Well I would have thought that just makes them even more established!
