Basically posh names that aren't very common. I can't think of what the girls names equivalents would be. Ideas?

@GreyhoundG1rl

Is Dido posh? It sounds quite the opposite (but then I've never met one).
Definitely. I know two. Three if you count a childhood friend called Dido Boothroyd Brooks. 😂

No question about it, then 😂

Dido Harding has killed that name for me. Useless woman.

She is posh though.

I don’t give a fuck about that stupid woman. She’s not who I associate with the name at all.

hamsterchump · 15/06/2021 22:30

Should have been Perdita (auto correct)

GreyhoundG1rl · 15/06/2021 22:32

Perdita reminds me of 101 Dalmatians. (That attempt autocorrected to predator Hmm)

The two Didos I know really are very posh (one in her 60s and one aged two!) I do think it’s a cute toddler name though.

Names can change though, so beware…remember how Chloe was really unusual and super-posh in the 80s and 90s? And then it suddenly became massively, massively popular and…a bit the reverse. Or Isabella in the last decade or so - once was unusual, now every reception cohort has at least three.

So if you really want to go posh you have to choose something you think really won’t suddenly leap in popularity…

My own DD’s name is mentioned by a poster upthread and I had liked it for years - then around the time DD was born it had a little burst of popularity! I was well pissed off Grin - but I called her it anyway Smile

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/06/2021 22:40

I've never met a posh one but I've always thought of Catherine as quite a posh name.

Georgeanne.
Anastasia.

Agreed. In the 80s the only Olivias I knew were UMC friends of my mum.

There are some seriously OTT suggestions above, and some names that are just obscure not posh... it’s harder w girls because a wider range of names are used, so they are less class bound, but the ones below might fit the bill

Hero
Frances
Viola
Henrietta
Leonora
Diana
Cressida
Jemima
Georgiana
Lavinia
Honor
Augusta
Gwendoline
Edwina
Sybil / Sybilla
Eugenia / Eugenie
Dido
Maud/e

V frilly posh names eg Arabella, Ophelia are getting v pop so won’t stand out. And others eg Imogen, Beatrice, Helena, Serena, are quite mainstream. Also think you want to avoid mid century timewarp names like Camilla, Lucinda, Fenella, Tamara or it’s all just a bit Jilly Cooper.
