I can't be the only person sincerely thinking these are fine, normal names? Much better than the 'trendy' nicknames-as-first-names like Archie, Alfie.

My tastes are obviously weirder than I thought Grin

I actually know a boy called Trevalyn which I think is quite a nice name! Still shorterned to Trev though Grin

NeedNewKnees · 03/06/2021 10:28

No Castlevania fans here then!

As Trevor Belmont shouted to Sypha “Trevor is a terrible name!”

Until I read this thread, it never occurred to me that Trebor (as in the mint) was Robert backwards. Mind blown.

KelKachoze · 03/06/2021 10:43

Not sure if this is supposed to be a joke post, but supposing it's genuine, I think Trevor is fine.

I have lived (and taught) in east London for twenty years. I've come across a few Trevors in that time. Also a tonne of Brians and Colins and plenty of other names cited by PPs as being hilarious bully fodder. Their names were a total non issue.

I do sometimes wonder if some of the posters here ever stop to think that there is a massive range of cultural and regional variation across the UK (in names and many other things) before proclaiming that something is universally acceptable or not acceptable simply because in their little pocket of the country they've never come across it.

Beetlewing · 03/06/2021 11:27

Welsh? If so yes but no if it's just retro fashion.

Branleuse · 03/06/2021 11:33

Marvin could work, or Kelvin, but Trevor is still a good name. My son Derek agrees too

BluePeterVag · 03/06/2021 11:36

I did wonder if we had walked into a 1970s school. But there are lot of young parents who have named their children after grandparents.
We also have Barbara, Patsy and a Susan.

Abzs · 03/06/2021 11:48

I can think of two Gavins. Their siblings were Alex and Scott.

S00tired · 03/06/2021 11:48

Yes! Also Ian, Barry, or Keith 😎

Abzs · 03/06/2021 11:56

I don't think there's anything wrong with Trevor though.

I agree with the poster above who said that popular names show regional variations.

KingPong · 03/06/2021 11:56

@BluePeterVag Only one Balonz?!! Take it you don’t live in Surrey?? Over run with them there I’ve heard.

AppleKatie · 03/06/2021 11:57

Trevor makes me think of Trevor Noah.

I wouldn’t put him/the name in the same category as Graham, Brian or Keith.

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 03/06/2021 12:17

You’d have thought schools would have set more homework keeping kids busy this half term.

bridgetreilly · 03/06/2021 14:05

Gavin and Gavina.

hiredandsqueak · 03/06/2021 14:25

What about Neville? Not heard that name for ages. Or maybe Richard that goes nicely with Gavin.

KirstenBlest · 03/06/2021 14:45

Most of those names are fine. Not keen on Keith or Trebor.

I know people with names like Trevor, Malcolm, Duncan, Nigel, Gary, and Neville. All are really nice.

WimpoleHat · 03/06/2021 18:17

I agree. They’re perfectly reasonable names, if a bit old fashioned/retro.
Bucklestimeshare · 04/06/2021 08:18

Obviously use Stacey if it’s a girl.

Ifixfastjets · 04/06/2021 09:45

The (older) trevor I know is lovely.
Some of his mates call him teddles.
Only has good associations for me.

Got put off malcolm by an awfully spoilt one. He used to be in the same swim class as ds. He spent most of the class on the side of the pool as he houldnt handle being told what to do. He would be about 15/16 now I think.
I knew brothers gavin and Gareth. I think Gareth went by garry sometimes.

Zgran · 04/06/2021 09:48

My Norman thinks not.
