What are your thoughts on Anne? Not Anna, Annabel, Anneliese etc just Anne, possibly nn Annie.

Also any suggestion for other similar type of 'plain names' like Anne, Jane etc

@hiptobeasquare

I have an Anne. I named her after my great Nan, Anne Boleyn and Anne Elliot. Sometimes older women think I am talking to them in supermarkets. They are always really surprised and happy that I have a toddler ‘Anne.’
I love Anne Elliot.
goldenfoldies · 01/06/2021 21:03

Beautiful, a classic!

RedcurrantPuff · 01/06/2021 21:03

Boring and dull

Nuggetnugget · 01/06/2021 21:04

I absolutely love it.

Branleuse · 01/06/2021 21:04

Another 'plain' name I really love is Jean

C0nstance · 01/06/2021 21:06

I love Jane, Ellen, Beth and Anna. Love simple names. Eve, Elle, Mary, Ruth, Lynne..

But, Anne? There's so little to it.

Having said that, I think it sounds fashionable now. Definitely it will come back as a reaction to the 3 and 4 syllable frillier names we have had for 2 decades now.

TheMotherlode · 01/06/2021 21:07

I think it’s nice. Love Annie as a nickname too.

Other similar names could be June, Kate, Beth, Ivy.

KirstenBlest · 01/06/2021 21:09

Lovely. I also like Ann, Annie, Jane and Mary .

I'm not keen on Anne or Jane as middle names.

BramStoker · 01/06/2021 21:09

I like Anne. I associate it with Anne of Green Gables who is one of my favourite literary characters and of course it absolutely needs the E!

I also like Jane

They are both classics

Sugarbellaella · 01/06/2021 21:11

I can’t stand it sorry - it’s so dull non descriptive. Anna or Annie fine but no to Ann.
I also hate Emma which I think is of the same ilk

INeedtobealone · 01/06/2021 21:15

Jean
Marie
Helen
Sarah
May
Faye
Claire
Kate

partyatthepalace · 01/06/2021 21:18

I like it, I am sure it will come back shortly with Jane and Jean. Margaret certainly is, and Mary to an extent.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 01/06/2021 22:12

Very classic and historical sounding, with some great namesakes. It possibly feels slightly dated compared to Anna (I've met lots of Anne's and they are all 50 plus), but lovely none the less imo. I expect Anne will make a comeback along with fellow short/simple classics like Jane, Ruth, Frances, Mary etc.

TopBlogger · 01/06/2021 22:15

Very boring. "Anne", bam, that's it. Nothing to it. Just...Anne

SemperIdem · 01/06/2021 23:27

@TopBlogger I feel like that about Anna, of the proper classic names. Might as well call the baby “Girl”. Amelia is becoming the modern equivalent.

MrsSnarget · 01/06/2021 23:32

Anne - classic and refreshing

I have an Aunt Anne, she's anything but dull or boring.

I also like Jeanne with the French pronunciation Zjanne

username2332 · 01/06/2021 23:33

Good international name - I've worked with women called Anne / Anna (of various spellings!) from Spain, Brazil, Poland and Russia.

Pieceofpurplesky · 01/06/2021 23:34

Beautiful and classic, totally underused like Jane, Mary and Kate

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 01/06/2021 23:36

I love it. I also love Ellen.

Enough4me · 01/06/2021 23:42

Lovely name, other short regular names I think will come back: Jane, Jean, Leah and Helen.

CaffiSaliMali · 02/06/2021 10:55

I like it although I do prefer Anna and Annie.

Other names of a similar feel to Anne and Jane:

Tess
Beth
Kate
Emma
Amy
Ruth
Leah
Sarah
Mary
Erin
Meg/Megan

wishing3 · 02/06/2021 10:58

Nice! Also like Sarah and Claire but think too soon for them on a toddler for me.

Keepitcleanplease · 02/06/2021 11:00

It's absolutely beautiful.

I also love Catherine, Mary and Helen.

LewishamMum · 02/06/2021 11:06

I just find it boring personally. Why not name her Annie if it goes with your surname? It's just that bit more interesting and still unusual. Annie isn't an obvious abbreviation (well, it's not an abbreviation for a start!), for Anne, so you and in life she would have to make a massive effort to make sure she's known as Annie.
It's probably just me but I think all one syllable names are boring! Sorry x

Montalbanosono · 02/06/2021 11:08

I like it. Unusual these days without being quirky.
