What are your thoughts on Anne? Not Anna, Annabel, Anneliese etc just Anne, possibly nn Annie.

Also any suggestion for other similar type of 'plain names' like Anne, Jane etc

OP posts:

It sounds a bit plain, but also classic.
I do know a young Anne and it suits her

Fyredraca · 01/06/2021 19:26

It's lovely, a classic for a reason

Dalmationcoat · 01/06/2021 19:27

Love Anne

DotDotDotDotDot · 01/06/2021 20:09

Well if you’re actually looking for a ‘plain’ name then Anne and Jane fit the bill perfectly. Maybe Mary or Joan? They have a similar feel.

TatianaBis · 01/06/2021 20:37

Dated.

NorthernDramaLlama · 01/06/2021 20:40

Big fan of Anne, here.

Itsprobablynothingbut · 01/06/2021 20:41

It's a pretty name and will be quite unusual for a girl born now. No downsides for me, OP.

PurrBox · 01/06/2021 20:43

Lovely

SemperIdem · 01/06/2021 20:44

I like it. You will be ahead of the next curve too, name wise

KitchenWarrior · 01/06/2021 20:47

Anne is lovely.

I also like Mary and Sally.

UrgentExit · 01/06/2021 20:50

I love it. Besides if she were to grow up with a quirky character, then nicknames are always a possibility. I don't mean predetermined pet names, but nicknames that come about from life.

Goodbyecustardtart · 01/06/2021 20:51

Anne is lovely.
I don’t like Mary or Joan.
Kate? Elizabeth?

SirVixofVixHall · 01/06/2021 20:52

I really like it. Elegant, timeless, sweet on a little child, graceful on an adult woman.

AnneLovesGilbert · 01/06/2021 20:52

It’s a good name.

DramaAlpaca · 01/06/2021 20:53

Lovely. A short, simple, underused classic.

tinytoucan · 01/06/2021 20:53

I love Anne. Wanted it as a middle name but it doesn’t work with our surname. I think it’s classic and beautiful.

CTR1000 · 01/06/2021 20:54

I love it. And Annie is a perfect NN for a little girl.

reprehensibleme · 01/06/2021 20:54

Elegant, simple, rare these days. Annie is nice for a little girl.

Toilenstripes · 01/06/2021 20:54

A beautiful name. Go for it.

tiredanddangerous · 01/06/2021 20:54

It's perfectly ok but a bit boring imo

milinhas · 01/06/2021 20:54

Anne is very nice (though I do prefer Anna I’m afraid sorry!). I do also like Joan from PPs suggestions.

Similar feel to me - Susan, Catherine, Eliza.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 01/06/2021 20:56

It’s a lovely classic name.

Or Nancy?

tsmainsqueeze · 01/06/2021 20:57

I love it but prefer Ann spelling. Simple, gentle .
Not going to find a class full either .

hiptobeasquare · 01/06/2021 20:58

I have an Anne. I named her after my great Nan, Anne Boleyn and Anne Elliot. Sometimes older women think I am talking to them in supermarkets. They are always really surprised and happy that I have a toddler ‘Anne.’

Serpenta · 01/06/2021 21:02

'Unromantic fiddlesticks' said the unsympathetic Marilla. 'Anne is a real good plain sensible name. You've no need to be ashamed of it'.

I love Anne Shirley and anytime I see the name Ann written down I mentally add the E. As she would.

I don't think I love the name (neither did Anne) but it's a classis that's for sure. Other names in a similar vein not already mentioned might be Barbara, Judy, Joan, Ruth and Jill.
