Edmund or Inigo?

Ds due soon! We struggled to agree on names but finally have a shortlist of Edmund (nn Ned) or Inigo. I’m interested in peoples thoughts on these names. They’re very different styles so I suppose I’m trying to work out which feels more right for us. Thanks :)

Edmund

I'm not wild about either, but Inigo sounds like a disease

MySocalledLoaf · 29/05/2021 21:06

Edmund

EssentialHummus · 29/05/2021 21:07

Depends on surname I guess, but I'd choose Inigo.

Fruityfriday · 29/05/2021 21:07

Inigo sounds like a contagious skin disease

idontlikealdi · 29/05/2021 21:10

Edmund is the better if crap options.

LeafBeetle · 29/05/2021 21:11

How about Indigo?

Ruthietuthie · 29/05/2021 21:11

I love both. I used to live in a place called St. Inigoes and Edmund was on my baby-boy list. They are both great names.
Inigo is also a version of Ignatius, if you wanted a more formal alternative.

MaMelon · 29/05/2021 21:11

Edmund - although Ned means hooligan/thug up here (non educated delinquent) so I’d go with Ed. Not relevant elsewhere in the UK though, I know.

Mammyloveswine · 29/05/2021 21:11

Edmund (Ned)..never heard of the other name sorry!

Gwenhines · 29/05/2021 21:24

Hello my name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father. Prepare to die!

Serpenta · 29/05/2021 22:21

Inigo Montoya was my first thought too and I love him but I think it would be a strange choice for someone without Spanish heritage.

Serpenta · 29/05/2021 22:24

But I suppose Inigo Jones wasn't Spanish, so maybe...

3CCC · 29/05/2021 22:24

I much prefer Inigo to Edmund. Edmund sounds a bit boring & dull Inigo definitely wouldn't be

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 29/05/2021 22:25

Inigo is gorgeous but quite brave imo (unless unusual names are more the norm where you are?). Edmund feels slightly "safer" to me thanks to it's similarity to popular Edward and the variety of nn's he can choose if he wants (Ed/Eddie/Ned/Ted/Teddy/Bear etc). I must admit I love the sound of Inigo though!

cariadlet · 29/05/2021 22:29

I've never met an Inigo (only know of Inigo Montoya or Inigo Jones). It's a bit too out there for me.

I've never met an Edmund either. It makes me think of Edmund Blackadder or Edmund from the Narnia books. For me, it's got a bit of an old fashioned, posh and a bit wet sort of vibe.

Happycat1212 · 29/05/2021 22:29

Edmund

Twizbe · 29/05/2021 22:34

Edmund by a mile

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 29/05/2021 22:38

I love both but Edmund is one of my all time favourites.

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 29/05/2021 22:43

Neither really but definitely not inigo. It sounds awful in an English accent and the nig part is really jarring. I really wouldn't. In Spanish the i is more like an ee sound but it won't be said that way in English.

grapewine · 29/05/2021 22:47

I can't hear Edmund and not think of Blackadder. But of the two it's the better option.

Lemur12 · 29/05/2021 23:07

Not keen on either I'm afraid. Inigo looks like a misspelling of Indigo to me, which would also be a strange name. Edmund reminds me of the the Narnia character, so quite a wet / weaselly type of boy. Edward is sweet and has similar nn options. Or Idris is cool.

SoapboxFox · 29/05/2021 23:10

Edmund. I also like Edwin.

saraclara · 29/05/2021 23:13

Dammit! That was going to be my post!
