So i was planning on naming my daughter Raven, she's due in September, but i found a really nice unusual name but i don't know what other people would think about it, Shado. What do you think of the name Shado? TIA

If your going to use Shado please just spell it like Shadow

ILoveShula · 23/05/2021 16:27

Awful.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 23/05/2021 22:10

Raven is fairly uncommon but has a nice sound and seems perfectly reasonable/not weird since Robin and Wren are well known names used for people. I wouldn't use Shado - misspelt and more of a pets name (lots of people with black haired/furred pets seem to call them Shadow).

Maybe you like dark/mysterious/gothic names?

Rowena
Ursula
Adrienne
Luna
Sabrina
Sylvie/Sylvia

Newmum110 · 24/05/2021 16:20

Raven is nice, maybe not everyone's cup of tea but we are all different.
I would definitely pronunce Shado as Shaydo so I think you would be setting your child up for a lifetime of issues.

CaffiSaliMali · 24/05/2021 18:57

I also assumed Shado was pronounced Shaydo, not Shadow.

If you're looking for something a bit more unusual and with a slightly dark beauty, how about:

Morven
Hester
Marissa
Mara
Demelza
Morgana
Sabrina
Morwenna
Marisa
Seraphina
Iseult/Isolde
Cassandra
Ursula

Raven is passable. Shado is terrible.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 24/05/2021 19:27

At best Shado sounds like something you'd name a German Shepherd.

Tal45 · 24/05/2021 19:35

Sounds like you made it up and can't spell. Raven is much better - unless they're blonde and then it wouldn't work for me.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 24/05/2021 21:29

Shad-ow and Shaydo are 2 different pronunciations. Its either one or the other. Confused.

I actually like the sound of Shadow but I don't think a 15 year old girl would thank you for it.
Im the opposite with Raven. I think it has cool free spirited vibe, but I'm not keen on the sound.

lljkk · 24/05/2021 21:36

Octavia is a great surname.
Shadow is ok, not a bad name imho. I just don't think it lives up to being paired with Octavia.
Raven would work well enough, can hold its own with Octavia.

lljkk · 24/05/2021 21:40

I think I'd go grand & goth on middle name, too ... list here

SunflowersAndLavender · 24/05/2021 21:43

Shado looks like it should be pronounces Shay-doe not Shadow. If you really want Shadow then just spell it like that.

It's bloody awful, it sounds like the name of a dog or a horse, but it would be even worse if no-one pronounced it properly.

Imcrc · 24/05/2021 21:57

Love love love Raven!!

This. Imagine all the years of people mangling the pronunciation, and the looks she'll get when she says "Actually, it's pronounced shadow" 😂
KurtWilde · 24/05/2021 22:07

I have a Raven. Always loved the name and luckily so does she!

RoosterRaveUp · 24/05/2021 22:12

I know a Raven. I think its a lovely name.

Lochroy · 24/05/2021 22:20

Why not call her Ballonz? At least it's not as a dark and gloomy.

Raven is ok.

Thefamilybusiness · 24/05/2021 22:20

She's going to spend her entire life explaining her name.
Shado will automatically be pronounced shaydough, shaddo will be pronounced Shaddow but people will assume that you can't spell.
Raven is ok

Chunkymenrock · 24/05/2021 22:22

Raven is nice. Shado is not.

ElizabethTudor · 24/05/2021 22:25

@Cleverpolly3

If I’m being honest they both sound like stage names from the tv show Gladiators
^ This It’s a no from me.
ElizabethTudor · 24/05/2021 22:27

@2bazookas

Shado the sheepdog. Don't do it.
That’s what I thought. Loved that book.
Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 24/05/2021 22:35

For goodness sake don't call your child Shado

If you like the name shadow just spell it that way!!

(Still an awful name but at least you don't look stupid!)

OneMamaAndHerGirl · 24/05/2021 22:51

Hate raven
Love shado

KaptainKaveman · 24/05/2021 22:56

What about Seyde ? It's Turkish and it's pronounced Sheyda. I love it. Or Sine ? The Irish version of Sheena.
