Can’t decide on girls names

OH and I have a short list but don’t love each other’s top choices.
Mine is Iris but he isn’t keen
His is Holly which I think is nice but a bit meh.

Others:
We both like Eve but think it’s probably too common
Sofia
Zoe

Middle name will either be Ruby or Florence.

Love but can’t use as they’re cousin’s names: Thea, Juliette, Imogen

Any help or tips gratefully received!

I love Eve. Evelyn, too.
Martha ? Quinn ? Romy ?

DramaAlpaca · 04/05/2021 02:12

Eve Florence and Zoe Florence are both lovely.

I love the name Holly. It's so understated, classy and cool. Really underused these days too, I don't know any under 10. About to exit the official top 100. I'd use Holly!

mouldygrapes · 04/05/2021 15:45

@Flymetothestars it’s nice, I just don’t know why it doesn’t grab me in the way the others do. Maybe when we see her I’ll change my mind.
I do like it for the more unique factor

I like iris ruby.. but I would be worried about initials. So if your surname begins with K. I.R.K would be initials.

mouldygrapes · 15/05/2021 01:42

@lydia2021 surname begins with T - IRT seems OK?

lydia2021 · 15/05/2021 01:56

Good. I used to know a kid. S.A.D. and another L.I.C.E.

mouldygrapes · 15/05/2021 20:17

Bumping please for a few more opinions on most recent shortlist

PineappleDreamer · 15/05/2021 20:25

Iris Ruby is the nicest in my opinion. By far.

IslaMann · 15/05/2021 20:57

Iris Ruby is my favourite.

GiveIrelandBackToTheIrish · 15/05/2021 23:03

I love Iris. My DD has one friend with that name and she's the only one in a large school.
Unique without sounding "too try-hard"

lucy5236 · 15/05/2021 23:17

@IamnotwhouthinkIam

Eve is gorgeous imo - classic, elegant but kind of cool sounding (it's a palindrome and often used in sci/fi and fantasy films/books since it means "life"). It's actually never been very popular - historically it's never made it higher than no. 50 and that was twenty years ago. But Eve may feel more well used as similar style names (Ava, Evie, Evelyn) are very popular.

Sofia is lovely but is very popular along with Sophia and Sophie. Iris is beautiful too but again is fairly trendy at the moment - it's more subject to fashion whims than Eve (Holly and Zoe aren't my taste, sorry).

Other suggestions based on your list - Maeve, Tess, Lara, Thalia, Gaia, Cora, Anna, Nina, Celia, Xanthe, Viola, Bryony, Beatrice, Julia, Ianthe, Cassia, Claudia, Lydia.

If I was ever to have another DD think I'd go for Cora. Love it!
PosyBoo · 15/05/2021 23:58

Iris Ruby is beautiful. I know an Iris Violet and think it’s such a great name! Good luck with the induction, I’m sure you’ll know her name as soon as you see her.

mouldygrapes · 16/05/2021 00:06

Thank you all.
We do love Iris but a little concerned re the relative popularity.
I think you’re right @PosyBoo and we’ll be more certain when we see her

Do people think Zoe Ruby is a bit awkward? Not sure it scans well

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 16/05/2021 01:25

Eve Florence is beautiful - sounds classic and very elegant. Iris Ruby is nice enough, if more popular.

I'm personally less keen on Zoe anyway, but Zoe Ruby doesn't flow well imo - it's the double 2 syllable "ee" endings.

daisypond · 16/05/2021 07:51

Zoe is my top choice but I like Iris too.

But you can’t have Zoe Eve - Zoe is the Greek form of Eve - it’s exactly the same name.

Stokey · 16/05/2021 08:00

What about Astrid or Ingrid? Similar to Iris but maybe less popular? Or Esme, Erin or Esther instead of Eve?
