Celina?

Also what do you think of the spellings
Selina
Selena

I like the moon & heavenly meanings equally. I slightly prefer Celina because I think it’s prettier. Thoughts?

@Springbankholiday

Thanks everyone! Still not convinced that we should rule out Celina - is this spelling really that bad? *@YoniAndGuy* which car is it? I’ve never heard of it Shock
I was probably thinking of Toyota Celica!

It was more the impression though. It looks to me like the wrong spelling and looks more like the kind of almost-a-name word usually given to cars!

Vauxhall Celina. Just sounds like that to me.

It's not awful OP. But if I heard this I would automatically assume it was spelled Selina.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 02/05/2021 12:41

Toyota Celica maybe?

silverstrawberry · 02/05/2021 12:50

Yea me too reminds me of Celine Dion go for it !

ThatIsMyPotato · 02/05/2021 13:12

I like Celina.

daisypond · 02/05/2021 13:14

I really like it, spelled Selena. I wouldn’t use the C.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 02/05/2021 15:48

Selena is gorgeous - and is both the most popular spelling and closet to the original name (Selene). Selina is a bit more dated and Celina looks invented imo (a smoosh of French Celine and Latin Celia).

Synchrony · 02/05/2021 18:25

I love it spelt Celina, because it's closer to the Latin for heaven (caelum) from which it derives.

Anibas · 02/05/2021 18:44

I like either with an S

lemonsyellow · 02/05/2021 19:01

@Synchrony

I love it spelt Celina, because it's closer to the Latin for heaven (caelum) from which it derives.
But isn’t that pronounced with a K sound? I’m no expert, though.
IamnotwhouthinkIam · 02/05/2021 19:10

As far as I know - Celia means heavenly (from the Latin Caelum). Celina is an uncommon variation of Selene (the Greek Goddess of the Moon) via the French version Celine (so no heavenly meaning as such for Celina/Selina/Selena).

ZednotZee · 02/05/2021 21:11

How about Celeste?

serin · 02/05/2021 21:57

I think its lovely and written down, Celina looks far nicer than Selena .

Springbankholiday · 03/05/2021 09:17

What does Celine mean in Latin and is Celina related to this name? I’m really confused because I’ve seen some baby name websites mention that Celina is linked to the word Caelum in Latin, but I don’t know how accurate that is?

Teeshirt · 03/05/2021 09:18

The name is from the Greek moon goddess Selene.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/05/2021 17:16

@Springbankholiday , Celine is most likely related to the moon (the same as Greek Selene - as much as names can be said to have a "meaning"), rather than Latin Caelum (sky/heaven) as Celia and Celeste are.

But Ancient Greek/Ancient Roman/Latin names were often influenced by each other - so if the majority of baby name websites/books say that Celina "means" heavenly, then that is what your DD will accept (so I don't think it really matters - it's all sky related!).

Springbankholiday · 04/05/2021 09:24

@IamnotwhouthinkIam Thanks! Love both meanings, heaven and moon so it’s a win win!
