Full name for Bobbie?

I really love the girls name Bobbie but worry it's a bit too much of a nickname to give as a full name (although is it really much different to names like Annie and Katie which both started out as nicknames?!)

If we wanted a longer name are there any others apart from the obvious Roberta and the less obvious Barbara(!) and Robyn?

But by the time your dd is working, the middle age white men will all be called Kyle and Brooklyn...

Who said that Claire cannot be shortened? We have a Claire in the Family, and she regularly gets called Bear, or Carebear!

I also know of a Georgina, who hates the Name, and uses her Middle name instead. She grew up being called Gina, until some vulgar clown at School regularly added a Va before it at every opportunity, causing her much upset and embarasment.
Thank goodness her middle name is short and popular, and actually suits her better. If you are unsure about a name for a child, giving a simple popular middle name can cause a lot less embarrassment and upset later on in life than the First name did.

I quite like Robena, I once nursed a sweet old lady called Robena Rose, which would easily convert into a Nickname of Bobbie.

Using anything other than Robyn/Robin or Roberta would be very contrived.

I'm now thinking of Bobbie's 'Daddy, my daddy!' scene. Love that film. (Although think it's weird that the actress who played Phyllis was actually 20 at the time and Jennie Agutter was only 18.)

They'll be called Alfie and Zephyr and Wilfred. I don't think Bobbie will raise too many eyebrows.

Bobbie is really cute but I would NOT use it as a full name - that might really piss your daughter off if she doesn’t happen to want a typically boys nn as a full name.

Elizabeth is a nice option if you don’t like Roberta or Robin - I know one with nn Bobbi - but I love Robin personality. Have heard Robina too.

I'm another one in a Jenny/Jennifer situation and I'm so grateful my Jennifer equivalent is on my birth certificate. I've loved having the option to have the full, formal name or to go for "Call me Jenny" depending on who I'm talking to.

My family is nickname-heavy and will nickname anything, whereas my husband has never been called anything other than his (extremely nicknameable!) full first name. My mother has a Clare-type first name and still had a nickname at school. If people want a nickname, one will be found. If people don't want a nickname, they can assert their desire to be called their full name. I mean, Elizabeth has a billion nicknames but she could still ask to be called Elizabeth. It's one of the reasons I don't have a lot of time for "But bullies will call them X!" Bullies will ALWAYS find something horrible to call someone. No name is bully-proof! But friends will always find something nice to call someone. No name is friend-proof either!

I adore Bobbie for a girl, and I'm really toying with it for this pregnancy if it's a girl, but I'm just not totally sold on Roberta and DH isn't keen on Robin. I think we'll probably end up going for something else, sadly, but it'll always be my might-have-been name.

i've seen girls named bobbie actually named bobbie-anne or bobbie-jo for their full first name, and usually just go by bobbie. dont know if this is common though.

How about Robinette? It's Joe Biden's middle name, so very topical.

You could probably get away with anything with a "rob" or "rab" sound - Arabella? Mirabelle?

Boy In my dd class is just Bobbie.
I always feel a bit sorry for him when i see that spelling. It just looks like it should be for a girl.
I knew a gemma many years ago. She was gem-Bob.
I think you could have any "official" name you want and use Bobbie as a pet name.

The Bobbie I know is Rosemary, randomly.

I love Robyn for Bobbie though, really nice.

Robin in the Strike novels uses Bobbie when undercover in one of the books. I prefer the spelling as well.

Robyn with Bobbie is really nice.

I keep coming back to this thread every time someone posts, hoping vainly that it'll be some amazing new full name for Bobbie that I'll call madly in love with. Probably be a boy now....

Roberta - based on The Railway Children.

If you're really not keen on that, I'd probably just pick any name beginning with a B...? I've also heard this for Barbara, Elizabeth, Robin/Robyn/Robina, Bonita... but if you're not going for the standard Roberta, I don't think it matters too much.

@PerspicaciousGreen haha I know I'm the same! I keep hoping there's just something I've not considered but I don't think it exists. Maybe choosing any B name like someone has suggested would work?
