So I will have a baby girl. I need opinions about these 2 names:
Olimpia
Hera
Please help, and I hope you are all well ladies xxx

I like them both.

I've also seen Olympia spelled like this. Is Olimpia Eastern European?

emmathedilemma · 08/04/2021 14:05

I would also spell it Olympia, but I don't particularly like either name (sorry). Olympia sounds like a leisure centre or sports stadium and Hera is just abrupt.

Drunkenmonkey · 08/04/2021 14:09

Are you living in the UK?
I'm personally not a fan of Olympia (I would have assumed it was spelt like this) but I think Hera is really nice. I've never met one, it sounds unusual yet still simple and pretty.

FelicityPike · 08/04/2021 14:09

Lovely traditional Greek names, but it’s spelled Olympia in English.
I prefer it over Hera.

Lockdownbear · 08/04/2021 14:10

Sorry op don't really like either of them but if I must pick I'd go for Olympia which should avoid jokes about "here comes O-limp-ia, she's looking a bit limp"

Hera, sounds like a dogs name, sorry op.

AnxiousAnnie86 · 08/04/2021 14:11

@IwishIwasBrave Iike Hera best! I really want to call our dd Juno! Which is the Roman equivalent! But my husband says no! 😩

Kanaloa · 08/04/2021 14:13

I’m not keen on either but think Hera is the best of the two.

MazekeenSmith · 08/04/2021 14:15

Hera is cool
Olympia is nice but must be spelt with a Y

Mackie2020 · 08/04/2021 14:18

I really like Hera

JemimaTiggywinkle · 08/04/2021 14:21

I prefer Hera.
If you did go with Olympia I’d definitely spell it with a y.

justwaydamin · 08/04/2021 14:22

Olympia if you insist, not Olimpia. But tbh it works for example for the child of Serena Williams (who already has defined quad muscles at what, three (?) years old?!).

Hera sounds nice but is, to me, the fashion brand (skinny jeans and oversized sweatshirts for tanned muscle men) but the origins of the name in Greek mythology is even more disturbing than muscles and man bags. Killer of women and innocent children? I dunno I just did a quick google.

So to sum up.... Meh. Not overly keen on either

MrsMop1964 · 08/04/2021 14:28

I prefer Hera, because I went to a concert at Olympia in London a few years ago so the other name makes me think of that. That's just a personal thing and the OP might not even be in the UK. I would use the Y spelling though.

user1493494961 · 08/04/2021 14:31

Not keen on either.

IwishIwasBrave · 08/04/2021 14:33

Many thanks for the replies ladies xx
Olimpia is my mums name and its spelled without y in her passport.
But I could use Olympia instead, same thing.
Hera is a greek goddess, love greek mythology xxx

Olympia makes me think of Manet's notorious painting in a brothel.

RunningFromInsanity · 08/04/2021 14:35

Olimpia looks spelt wrong, sorry. Olympia is better.
Hera is alright.

IwishIwasBrave · 08/04/2021 14:42

Yes, it is, that's nice of you to know. My mum's middle name is Olimpia :)

OP posts:
tf23 · 08/04/2021 14:48

Apologies, both are a little contrived and "out there" for me. May work better outside the UK. But each to their own, it would be boring if we all liked the sane names,

tf23 · 08/04/2021 14:48

Same not sane..

Atalune · 08/04/2021 14:50

Hera is lovely. Not so keen Olympia/Olimpia- although the diminutives of Pippa, Pip, pia are all very sweet x

Lockdownbear · 08/04/2021 14:55

Is your DMum from the UK? Very unusual name.

Spied · 08/04/2021 14:57

Hera is lovely.

KirstenBlest · 08/04/2021 15:04

Olympia and Hera are both ok but possibly a bit try-hard

KoalaOok · 08/04/2021 15:12

If it's your mum's name then I'd use it if you like it

KoalaOok · 08/04/2021 15:13

I don't like Hera personally
