Just that really, like, dislike, name pros and cons? It's a new addition to my shortlist for boy due in May. I seem to be adding new names into the mix as I get closer to due date and this is the latest...

Decent name. I've no objection, but not am I a huge fan.

HamFisted · 31/03/2021 19:53

*nor

CirqueDeMorgue · 31/03/2021 19:53

I love it but I have one so I'm obviously biased.

HirplesWithHaggis · 31/03/2021 19:53

Lovely name. :)

EvilOnion · 31/03/2021 19:57

It's one of my favourite boys names :)

Lots of people debate the pronunciation with this spelling on here but I've known 5 - 4 pronounced Ah-rin and 1 Air-on.

I'm Scottish and prefer the Ah version but I don't like the Arran spelling.

Amdone123 · 31/03/2021 20:01

I dislike. It's dated. I once had about 5 in my form class ( probably about 12 / 13 years ago now.

Stevearnottsbeard · 31/03/2021 20:10

I think I've only met one, who I went to school with from mid 90's. His name was pronounced a-run, he hated it when one particular teacher kept calling him air-run. Have to say I prefer his pronunciation

IllNeverLetGoJack · 31/03/2021 20:11

Like it! No negative connotations. It is well known, but not commonly used. Lots of good points and I can't think of anything bad about it.

inmyslippers · 31/03/2021 20:12

Due a come back

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 31/03/2021 20:14

It's nice enough - don't love, don't hate. I don't find Aaron at all dated personally, but neither does it feel quite as classic as fellow short Biblical names like Adam, John etc to me.

wintertime6 · 31/03/2021 20:19

I like it, but I don't think I'd use a name that can be pronounced different ways, you'd always be telling people how you want it pronounced which would be annoying. I have an unusual surname and when I have to give anyone my name I just now automatically say my first name, then surname and then spell out my surname because I know the next question is going to be 'sorry what was your surname?' It gets really annoying!

ILoveShula · 31/03/2021 20:31

Never seems to go away. I know a few of different ages, all of them pleasant. They don't all spell it the conventional way. Most are Aaron.

Inoffensive. Will be the first in any list of first names.

partyatthepalace · 31/03/2021 20:32

@EvilOnion

It's one of my favourite boys names :)

Lots of people debate the pronunciation with this spelling on here but I've known 5 - 4 pronounced Ah-rin and 1 Air-on.

I'm Scottish and prefer the Ah version but I don't like the Arran spelling.

They are two different names though - Aaron is a biblical boy’s name and is Air-run, Arran is a unisex name after the island and is Ah-run

I like Aaron OP, but I prefer Reuben or even Ronan

PandaFluff · 31/03/2021 20:38

I like it.

PaquitaVariation · 31/03/2021 20:41

It’s the name of one of my relatives. They have no end of questions about how to spell it and pronounce it. I don’t dislike it but i couldn’t be doing with the questions every time someone new heard/saw it.

EvilOnion · 31/03/2021 20:42

@partyatthepalace that was my point, the OP asked for cons.

That would be that the spelling has been adopted for different pronunciations so whilst both are widely used now there are those who will insist it's wrong.

CoffeeRunner · 31/03/2021 20:52

I was at school with an Aaron and an Arron.

Aaron was pronounced Air-on.

Arron was pronounced a-Ron.

I don't mind the name but it is quite an 80's thing.

PlainJane1000 · 31/03/2021 20:56

Thanks for the feedback. Definitely good to consider the potential pronunciation issues. I have a very easy name to pronounce so it's not something I've had to experience. I do think it had a bit of a popularity peak in the late 90s or early 00s so despite it being biblical it probably also went through a trendy phase that other biblical names didn't... Not sure if that would bother me too much but is something I hadn't thought about.
Appreciate the inputs!

I like the name but I’m a teacher and saw this video years ago. Now every time I have an ‘Aaron’ it’s all I can think of when I read it 🤣

Flymetothestars · 01/04/2021 21:35

It's nice
What other names are on your list?

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 01/04/2021 21:37

Aaron pn air’un I like. Feels due a comeback!

yeOldeTrout · 01/04/2021 21:43

I strongly dislike Aaron & would put it in the 'charmless' camp. Must have never met one I liked.

rainbowthoughts · 01/04/2021 21:46

Aaron to me is just ah-run. I am in Scotland and see a lot of Aaron/Arran, always pronounced the same way.

4Minions2CallMyOwn · 01/04/2021 22:03

I have one, love the name and have never met another where we are in London. We pronounce it Ah-Ron

Thedogscollar · 02/04/2021 00:56

Nice name
