Hello everyone, would like to hear which spelling variation for the name Macy you prefer:
Maisie or Maisy (usually pronounced May-zee but heard pronounced as may-cee as well)
Maicy
Mayci
Maysi
Thanks Daffodil

My name has a different spelling than the most used one. Please don't do this, you're just doing it to feel unique about yourself and your child is the one who gets her name spelled wrong her entire life. Choose a name for your child, not for yourself.

WhiskyIrnBru · 30/03/2021 14:11

Maisie is pronounced Mays-ee.

Macy is pronounced like the department store Mace-ee

Sorry OP I think those spellings are all horrendous.

MerryChristmasToYou · 30/03/2021 14:58

Maeceigh

sadpapercourtesan · 30/03/2021 15:04

There's an American dancer who spells it Maesi

I think it's dreadful, personally

Lockdownbear · 30/03/2021 17:06

Op if you think unique spellings are the way to go read the Ryan with a W thread.

AlohaMolly · 30/03/2021 17:10

I taught a Macey once. I wouldn’t bat an eyelid at Macy, Macey, Macie or even Maci but would have to check it wasn’t pronounced Mack-ee.

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 30/03/2021 17:13

Macy, Macey or Macie. The others are silly.

DeRigueurMortis · 30/03/2021 17:26

Why?

What's the point?

You're just condemning your child to life of explaining how to spell her name.

I've got an unusual name (not a unique spelling but just rare) and it's a PITA quite frankly and at least I don't have to deal with any raised eyebrows or silent sniggering as people (appropriately or not) make judgements on what the hell my parents were thinking.

Your child's name should be a gift not a burden nor an opportunity to express your "creativity" at their expense.

VenusClapTrap · 30/03/2021 19:29

None of them.

partyatthepalace · 30/03/2021 23:17

Maisie is always pronounced May-zee

If you want Macy spell it like that

(Ignore the lunatic PP who says Maysi is gorgeous - it’s not, it’s like a 5 year old trying to spell.)

WeeGobshiteBentBastard · 31/03/2021 10:47

MaighSeigh

Snog · 31/03/2021 10:54

If you choose an original spelling go into this with your eyes open.

Some people will think it's original and cool, others will think it uneducated and common. Unfortunately there will be lots more in the second category than in the first category.

plinkplinkfizzer · 31/03/2021 11:24

This is insane do you put your own spelling twists on other words too .
It's immature and nonsensical .

riotlady · 31/03/2021 11:29

Gmacy (the g is silent)

saffire · 31/03/2021 11:37

None of them. They are all horrible and the poor child will have a lifetime of correcting people.

mamablondie33 · 31/03/2021 18:58

Macy or Macie. Lovely name!

Don’t go with Maisie it is absolutely pronounced May-zee. Which isn’t actually as nice.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 01/04/2021 06:38

They're all really bad spellings! Stick with Macy. And Maisie/Maisy is literally never pronounced like Macy unless someone is simply mistaken.

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 01/04/2021 06:44

I too will honk Macy is best but that Macie would work too.

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 01/04/2021 06:44

I too will honk Macy is best but that Macie would work too

I too think! No honking.

I'm guessing that this has arisen because Scrabble changed their rules in 2010 to allow people's names, and OP is trying to get rid of all their letters in one go.

Maybe?

behindhereyes · 01/04/2021 07:12

I know a Maci, pronounced May-Cee,

Summertime21 · 01/04/2021 07:37

Macy or macie, Maisie is a different name and if you use it but change how it's pronounced you have a lifetime of correcting people

Chilldonaldchill · 01/04/2021 08:38

I have to admit I don't like the name personally but Macy, Macie and Macey all work linguistically to get the sound you want and to fit with accepted English spelling rules. Using an s will always get you the z sound in this context (you'd need a double s to get an s sound and that would look ridiculous).
