Thoughts on Sebastian? And nicknames?

Hi ladies. We wanted something traditional and not too common so we like the sound of Sebastian. What's your thoughts? Only concern is what nickname would we use?

I love Sebastian but a nickname is difficult. I've only known Sebs which isn't great 🙄 go ahead with the name you like maybe and don't worry about it. Nicknames have a way of developing themselves and often don't bear much resemblance to the real name. We chose a name we thought couldn't be shortened but his brother couldn't say it, so he gave him a nickname he could say which stuck and now we all use it 😂

PurpleFlower1983 · 29/03/2021 07:49

I like Sebastian/Seb. Bastian reminds me of Neverending Story.

TigerBeetle · 29/03/2021 07:51

I like Sebastian and Seb. I also know a Sebastian whose nickname is Tio (I think this has evolved rather than being a planned nickname).

KnottedFern · 29/03/2021 07:52

I know a Sebastian who's nickname is Bash.

mycatchichi · 29/03/2021 07:56

Under the sea !!

Love the name though. And Seb is cute

Frolicinameadow · 29/03/2021 07:58

Bash was a nickname used in a show. Can’t remember the name of the show but bash was very handsome

Fifipop185 · 29/03/2021 07:58

I know a Sebastian - or Sebby as he is called Confused

mybonnieliesovertheocean2 · 29/03/2021 07:59

I know a Sebastian and he gets called Seb

AnxiousAnnie86 · 29/03/2021 08:05

@charcb same as PP I know a Sebastian snd he's Bash! I love that x

Chilldonaldchill · 29/03/2021 09:05

Love love love love Sebastian. I'd use Seb personally as I think it sounds great. Bas is ok but I don't like Bash.
(Was it from Anne with an E for the poster that asked above?)

charcb · 29/03/2021 09:22

Thanks everyone! Always nice to get someone else's opinions on this! @Fifipop185 does the emoji mean you don't like the nickname Sebby? Or the complete name?

Nicknames are hard with Sebastian though! I love Seb as a nickname but find it will be difficult to pronounce (the ending B sound is quite tricky isn't it?)

Not my cup of tea

trying29 · 29/03/2021 09:32

I have a Sebastian and we often use Basti as a nickname.

Violetlavenders · 29/03/2021 10:01

Sebastian is quite nice.

But it's quite long and the short forms are not nice unfortunately. I dislike Seb/Sebby (reminds me of sebaceous or oily) and Basty is too close to bastard unfortunately.

Violetlavenders · 29/03/2021 10:03

How about a 2 syllable similar name that you wouldn't need to shorten eg
Felix
Marcus
Quentin
Tristan
Roman

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 29/03/2021 10:04

Was just talking to my cousin about her 2nd son being named Sebastian , everyone bar one loved it .

Fifipop185 · 29/03/2021 11:35

@charcb I don't mind the name Sebastian, but the nickname Sebby makes me cringe - can't quite say why it just does. If you love the name OP go for it.

IllNeverLetGoJack · 29/03/2021 12:14

I really like it. It was on our list for DS. I would probably use Seb. I'm not keen on Bastian or Basty, Bass etc.

Bouledeneige · 29/03/2021 13:09

I like the name and know a Seb.

However I also know a Basty and I don't like that at all.

OloBo · 29/03/2021 13:16

Would’ve been top of my boy lists if it wasn’t terrible with our surname. Absolutely lovely.

Violetlavenders · 29/03/2021 13:21

the nickname Sebby makes me cringe

I also don't like Seb or Sebby. It sounds so soft and reminds me of soap and oil, sebaceous.

It's a shame as the full name Sebastian sounds nice.

imp2007 · 29/03/2021 13:24

We have a Sebastian and love it - he is always Sebastian and never Seb by his own choice - he doesn't answer to Seb if anyone uses that. Only abbreviation is a slightly random Sebbles by my brother!

RosieRedPetal · 29/03/2021 13:33

Sebastian is a good name. For me a name needs to work at all ages. Cute for a child, cool for a teen and attractive sounding for an adult.

Sebastian has it all. It's a fabulous name. Smile

QuentininQuarantino · 29/03/2021 13:37

Love it! And all it’s nicknames. It’s not a very popular name but it’s classic and cool and sweet all at once (IMO)
