Maeve and..... Kiora?

Due end of July so plenty time to decide... but I'm soo picky with names! DD1 is called Maeve. I love it because it's spells like it sounds and has celtic/Irish origins. Also not too many syllables as surname is 3. We live in Scotland and have Irish and Italian heritage.

Recently I was all set on Ciara, but the mispronunciations -kee-ah-rah/ see-ah-rah have put me off. I think the correct way is Kee-ra

I've stumbled upon Kiara, I think it has celtic origins from a quick google? Seems to mean little dark love, which would be nice if DD2 is dark like me (DD1 very fair like her dad) would it be weird as a name if this baby is blond too? Am I overthinking this?!

Any other suggestions? Or thoughts on Kiara?

I think you are better spelling it Ciara than Kiara - Ciara is the trad spelling, it’s quite well known so I don’t think pronunciation is that hard, and don’t see Kiara improves things. If you want phonetic spell it Kira.

Haha I'm so glad some people found the advert as immediately in my head when I saw this post title, I started to sing... We all adore a kiora! 😂 That marketing person should get a bonus because its imprinted on so many of our brains all these years on!

ShesMadeATwatOfMePam · 21/03/2021 07:08

Ciara id assume is kee-aah-ra. Keira would be kee-ra due to Keira knightly.

babynamelover · 21/03/2021 07:30

Kia ora means hello or thank you in Te Reo Maaori native language of New Zealand. I've never heard of the drink!!!

So you don't want it said keer-ruh?

I would go Ciara as it's beautiful in it's original form. I think it's key-are-uh?

amallierory · 21/03/2021 19:16

What about Kianna? Or Kyra?

careermumofone · 21/03/2021 19:17

What about Cara? I have a Cara and also love the name Maeve

purplepoppet92 · 23/03/2021 14:57

Kiara isn't a Irish name I hate to say - the Irish alphabet doesn't have a K.
It is quite likely an anglicized version of Ciara (pronounced Keera)

Monkeytapper · 23/03/2021 15:12

Umbongo?

Or how about Kira?

NameChangedForThisFeb21 · 23/03/2021 15:13

I’d go with the Italian Chiara.

I’d assume Ciara and Kiara were Keer-a

I know a lovely Kierra - Kee-eh-ra which is a variation.

Laureatus · 23/03/2021 23:13

I don't totally understand - Ciara and Kiara are 2 spellings of the same name, with the Irish origin you mention (I went to school with loads in Scotland, many pronounced different ways). I don't understand how changing the c to a k will change anything in your dilemma.

Laureatus · 23/03/2021 23:14

And I also just thought of Kia Ora juice when I read your post, sorry! 🙈

Orange squash in a plastic carton with a straw, at the cinema.

I've now thoroughly gone off all of Kiora/Kiara/Ciara/Chiara! Too complicated!

What do you think about Cora? Only one way to spell/pronounce. My only reservation is that it's a friend's daughters name but we're not that close, in WhatsApp group chats together at best. The kids would be unlikely to meet. That's okay right? It's not a family name.

Love Cora

emmathedilemma · 24/03/2021 09:39

Maeve and Cora is good!
I was going to suggest Clara
I know a Ciara and even people who know her still struggle spelling and pronouncing her name! The Storm Ciara that we had a couple of years ago drove her crazy as the radio and TV never said it right!

NameChangedForThisFeb21 · 24/03/2021 09:50

Cora is perfect

jellybellybanana · 24/03/2021 09:52

I've stumbled upon Kiara, I think it has celtic origins from a quick google

It doesn't, not with a K. Either spell it properly, so Ciara, or use the Scottish spelling of Keira.

Not Kiara, not Kiora.

Woodlandbelle · 24/03/2021 09:54

Kiera would be the best option if you really don't want to go for Ciara

Woodlandbelle · 24/03/2021 09:55

Clara is absolutely beautiful

Scarby9 · 24/03/2021 09:56

I know a Kee-ara spelt Ciara. I like it, but did hear the mum explaining the pronunciation a couple of times.

fruitbrewhaha · 24/03/2021 09:57

I much prefer Cora.

Arrowheart · 24/03/2021 10:00

Definitely not Kiora. You might as well name her siblings Vimto and Ribena

Arrowheart · 24/03/2021 10:01

Cora is beautiful

jellybellybanana · 24/03/2021 10:17

I know a Kee-ara spelt Ciara. I like it, but did hear the mum explaining the pronunciation a couple of times

Explaining it how, in that she got the pronounciation of the name wrong in the first place and expects everyone else to say it wrong as well?
I met a girl called Sierra, but spelled Ciara. Her idiot mother mixed up two completely different names but wouldn't back down. Poor kid. Last I heard she was planning on changing her name as soon as she could.
