Maeve and..... Kiora?

Due end of July so plenty time to decide... but I'm soo picky with names! DD1 is called Maeve. I love it because it's spells like it sounds and has celtic/Irish origins. Also not too many syllables as surname is 3. We live in Scotland and have Irish and Italian heritage.

Recently I was all set on Ciara, but the mispronunciations -kee-ah-rah/ see-ah-rah have put me off. I think the correct way is Kee-ra

I've stumbled upon Kiara, I think it has celtic origins from a quick google? Seems to mean little dark love, which would be nice if DD2 is dark like me (DD1 very fair like her dad) would it be weird as a name if this baby is blond too? Am I overthinking this?!

Any other suggestions? Or thoughts on Kiara?

If you want Kee-ara then Kiara will cover that

OverByYer · 17/03/2021 11:06

What about Cora or Cara!

MazekeenSmith · 17/03/2021 11:06

Omg that advert is so racist Blush

Whythesadface · 17/03/2021 11:06

Why would you give your child a name that means their entire life they will be tells Ng people how to spell or say it.?

Champy87 · 17/03/2021 11:06

If you want the pronunciation of Kee-ah-rah the you could go for the Italian version of Chiara. It means bright light and given your Italian heritage, it might be a good fit?

MadamBatty · 17/03/2021 11:07

Are you thinking of Chiara which is the Italian version of Claire?

Ciara means small dark one. All the other versions are misspellings. Why would you give your child a misspelled name?

LittleChicken11 · 17/03/2021 11:09

What about Chiara? It’s Italian and pronounced Key-ar-ah like you like.

ChameleonClara · 17/03/2021 11:10

@crochetlove

It's too orangey for crows
My first thought too!
RickOShay · 17/03/2021 11:12

Definitely choose Chiara if you have Italian heritage. It’s a lovely name.

Sudename · 17/03/2021 11:17

What about Clara?

Yes Chiara would be perfect... if only people didn't say Chee-ara...

But maybe that would be the least of my worries, hopefully once corrected once it would be okay?

My DD1 also love Kiri and Lou so would give the added bonus of a kiri nickname!

This!

I think with Maeve it will often be misread as Ciara, but not in isolation.

Deadringer · 17/03/2021 11:24

Cara is a great name as a pp said, it means friend and it can't really be mispronounced, it's literally car-a.

Cara is a family name unfortunately. It is lovely

If you heard someone say their name was kee-ah-rah how would you presume it was spelled?

VienneseWhirligig · 17/03/2021 11:36

Kiora? I'll be your dog.

Kiara/Kiera/Keira - pretty

flummingbird · 17/03/2021 11:37

I would assume Kiara.

PattyPan · 17/03/2021 11:40

If someone said their name was spelt Kee-ah-ra I would think it was spelt Chiara. If they said kee-ra I would think Ciara or Keira.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 17/03/2021 11:41

But
we all adora Kia Ora

You beauty! That's what I was hoping. Not sure how literate I can presume the general public to be though. Chiara is probably pretty uncommon in Scotland

I'm still swithering because 'Chee-Aa-rah' just sounds so horrible. I'm imagining a really loud obnoxious English accent...

I'm singing the Kiora advert in my head now. Will have an ear worm all day!

Adore a Kiora!

SallyMcNally · 17/03/2021 13:03

Man that advert is so racist! Can't believe stuff like that used to be allowed.

I like Kiera/ Keira and I think people would get the pronunciation pretty quickly although the may get the I and e mixed up as it can be spelt each way.

FeedMeSantiago · 17/03/2021 17:33

I know a Chiara and no-one seems to struggle with pronouncing it. As Chiara is pronounced the same was as the name you want and you have Italian ancestry it seems like a good choice to me.

Changethetoner · 17/03/2021 17:36

what about Clara? or Claire?
